Charger Owners' Takes on the G8

A co-worker who has an SRT8 Charger sent me this link because he thought I might be interested:

http://www.chargerforums.com/forums/...ad.php?t=65537

Reading some of the comments from the Charger owners on there ranged from almost pissing me off to making me laugh.

A few of my favorites are:

"the front end looks to Pontiac-ish"...Should it be more Mitsubishi-ish?

"To me it looks like a 4 door GTO with a Pontiac grill"...really genius, maybe that's because they were based on the same car, just a redesign apart, and what kind of grill did the GTO have?

"To me it looks like a hopped up grand am???"...I don't think so Tim

"The G8 has something of a squared-off nose, more like the aztek"...last time I checked the front end of a charger was flat as a brick.

Anyway, I know there are mixed feelings about the G8 on here, just thought I'd share with the class.

With all the SRT8 owners on their high horses, someone finally mentioned the GXP that will have about 450 HP if/when it comes out. I was very tempted to join that forum just for that thread but didn't feel like getting flamed by all the Charger fanboys.

well, it is proven that the srt8 (300 and charger) guys can beat us stock for stock...however, their cars arent the end-all that some (and many on their forums) say.

that being said, this g8 is going to be ~30k base. You can't touch an srt8 anything for less than mid 40s.

and, lest we forget....none of the guys over there can find their clutch pedals...

I don't care how fast they are, Chargers as ass ugly. They slapped a ram grill thats too big for the ram itself onto a fish with all the styling of a 70's sedan. Newsflash: 4 door muscle cars- ugly and pointless. The retro craze is overdone. I'd sooner go for a tasteful modern cars with muscle power like the g8.

charger sucks

Yes and srt-8 is fast, but fugly. I would never own a chrysler product! I mean come on a four door charger, those owners who rip on the gto forget what a musclecar is, cramming a big engine into a fairly light car. The gto is great and the g8 is going to be an awesome car.Instead of grabbing life by the horns I would like to grab these guys by the throat.

It is pretty funny to listen to how much the Charger guys boast that their cars are faster than what magazines list them at.... don't they realize it's entirely possible that the G8 will do the same?

I think Pontiac has nailed this car. I really do. While style opinions might vary from person to person, it's obvious the car has a very modern and well placed look. The inside looks pretty nice, I'd say average for a $30,000 car. The fact that they put in a beefy V8 that puts out good numbers will really help, as both casual drivers will enjoy the power as well as performance oriented folks (considering the endless mods that are/will be available). The six speed is nice (4-speed GTO, anyone?), but hopefully they include a manual at some point.

I really don't see how a $42,000 Charger can compete with a $30,000 G8, even if the Charger has a slight edge in the performance.

What are the official prices on the G8? Too many damn trims (V6, V8, GXP, etx.) Gah...wish they woulda kept it simple like the GTO.

Agreed. Although, as a family sedan, it should have levels. Have the Base, the GT, and the GXP line in most of their cars.

Mid 400's I've heard, though if it is produced, it might drop a bit.

But that's just off the top of my head, I could be totally wrong.
