Am I looking for a stock TB or looking for a bigger TB already hooked up to the stock manifold?
What exactly is "drilled out" and what for? |

the header is not a stock piece. its aftermarket. as for the "tuned" header, theres no such thing since its just a piece of metal. only thing that separates the stocker from aftermarket is size and flow.

look bigger. the tb is one of the choking points of the engine. if that makes sense. but get the intake manifold as well or you wont see as much of a gain. the bolt pattern is probably different between the two manifolds, so the 2.3 wont directly bolt to the 2.4 head.

So I'm looking for an aftermarket higher-flow header that would FIT in a 2.4 cavalier? Any idea where to get that? or is that at J-body too?
I'll have to take a look there a little later. |

yeah that's what I though about the TB. Wouldn't a non-stock 62mm TB + 2.3 intake mani be better? Or wouldn't it be that much of a difference.
If I get an aftermarket TB and the 2.3 intake then what do I have to tell the mechanic in order for him to get it to fit? Or will he just know/figure it out. |

1. Go to www.jbody.org and into the classifieds.
2. Look for "2.3 HO intake manifold and throttle body" that has already been modified to fit on the 2.4 engine. 3. Look for an aftermarket header for sale that is for the 2.4 engine. This part will need a slight modification.

I'd suggest looking used before buying new for the header, but it is an option. You will have to buy used for the intake/tb

Is the extra $100 - $200 worth it to have them coated if I'm not doing much, if anything else after this is done? The car has 94,000 miles on it and I don't think I'll NEED the header to last extra long with only this much life left in the engine.
Why couldn't I buy a new TB to go with the used intake mani? |

As for power difference.... you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Actually, the 2.3 HO mani/TB set will perform almost as well as aftermarket 2.4 mani/tb's at 1/4 of the cost.

The coating will just reduce the heat under the hood. Personal preference.... I'd get it wrapped if nothing else.

IIRC, lots of people on here have had issues with them. The general idea on this board is to stay away, and use one of the trusted sponsors.

Okay the TB point sounds good if there really isn't noticable gain from a new one. Especially since it's not like I'm going to MAX ULTIMATE performance and have no plans of any kind of forced induction.

What kind of thermal wrap is it? Like what is it called?
Man this thread is going to be my 1 stop reference once I get $500 and my exhaust finished :-) |

You're getting this info the easy way ![]() When I looked into this, I spent months on www.jbody.org and www.quad4forums.com learning crap. I highly suggest looking at both of those quite a bit before spending any money. This board is very light on 2.4 guys.... maybe 3-4 of us that have done anything to them/looked into it. I personally never modded mine much engine wise, but had some plans laid out.

Question.... what's your exhaust setup? Because I had like 4 different setups, and I can save you time/money by pointing you in the right direction. The 2.4 is hard to keep from getting really raspy.
