system killed my alternator.....

i hooked up a 600watt amp and 2-10 inch infinity subs....and that same day when i used my turn signals, hit the brakes...it drained the dogshyt out of my battery....to the point where it would go from 14 volts all the way to below 8 volts......after a while, i noticed when i gave it gas, the needle would go back up. Anyway-i heard my engine squeeling and i was told my alternator was going out.......Whatwould make the system kill my alt. like that?? i put a brand new battery in that day also.....Im just wonderin bcuz im replacin my alternator and if the alt went out just for the simple fact of it bein old and needin replaced im cool....but if i replace it with my new one, i hook the system back up-i dont wanna go thru this again.......

so you sold your system the same day you got it and are buying a new one again? i dont follow....... caps wont do anything. you're or were running a small system so get a higher performance battery up front and you should be alright. if problems persist, go with an HO alternator. then back up battery...but the last 2 shouldnt be needed. caps are useless, today's amps dont need them and will benefit more from a back up battery if you really want something.

Opinon wise.....2-10's?? what kind of system would u suggest?? i want bass...but not no obnoxious house rattling bass......1-12 maybe??? the car is a daily driver and im tryin to go as maintience free as possible

Besides what he said...

Don't forget about the "Big 3" wiring upgrade.

IIRC, the wiring from:
the alternator to battery
battery to ground
engine to ground

Upgrading them to a bigger gauge of wires.

ya i dont know why i didnt mention the big 3. i did it on mine, i saw a LITTLE difference....about what i paid for it. so like a $20 worth gain? meaning nothing. Upgraded battery + HO alt = no more dimming =

You guys have any pictures of the Big 3 Upgrade?

Or have a how to?

Because I want to do it, But it seems like a pain in the butt if you run it through the tubing they have now.

What's the stock? looks like 8ga or something.

Here; you just need 2 terminal adapters for the top posts on the battery:

i could take real-life pictures tomorrow if need be, that'll show exactly how it is

Did you have to run them through the stock tubing or anything?

I'm just wondering about the engine heat on the wires.

The terminal adapters can be picked up at an auto store I assume?

Ooo, I will let you know tomorrow. I need to get the exact model number. It's one of the discontinued Alpine mono amps.

Don't really want to go out to my car in snow.

If the picture is easy to get, please :]
Otherwise don't worry about it.

Yeah, I saw it when I was doing my LIM repair today [when I took the alt off]

I was like wtf is this crap ;x

Then I glance over at my power wire running to the trunk, and I'm like... holy fricken crap, maybe that's why I have issues.
I thought the power wire to the batt was at least.... something decent, .

I was thinking 0/1ga, but you think I should use 4ga instead?
