What's a "good" price on a decent condition R6 these days?

I took the MSF course, and would VERY STRONGLY recommend you take it as well.

I learned a lot in the class.

For example. I'm a pretty short, but stout guy. 5'8", roughly 270lbs. They stuck me on the smallest bike there, an Kawasaki Eliminator 125. Thats right, a 125cc. I'll tell ya, that little dinky thing, I swear i thought I'd break it, but, it actually hauled my big ass around pretty easily. granted we mostly rode of flat terrain, but it still did just fine with me on it. And it was very easy to maneuver, and it felt like I could ride it all day long. It was nice.

As for bikes, I'm kinda in the market as well, but I'm looking for Standard type. I was actually looking a Suzuki Boulevard S50. It's a nice 600 cc light weight bike.

Oh and as for the 250 that was mentioned. You'll appreciate it more than a 500/400 because it's smaller, turns better, handles better, and is lighter. A 250 sport bike is exactly what you would want to learn on. Just think, after you learn and get a feel for everything, then you can step up to a bigger bike.

If there was one thing I learned from that course is take it slow. Start small. It will be a much easier process if you do.

good luck to ya!

Well, everybody I talk to says that the R6 tends to hold its value. I got mine pretty damn cheap for what it has. I picked mine up for $4,800 back in June. Its a 2001, and only had 3,800 miles on it at the time. Over two grand in aftermarket parts, and its a limited edition. So I feel like I made out pretty good on the deal.

I would imagine for a 00-02 somewhere around 4,000 would be fair. Shop around, and dont be afraid to low-ball the person if you choose to want the bike, because the guy was asking 5,200 for my bike when I first looked at it, and he took 4,800 without question.

Im finally taking the msf class through our CC in april. Its time to ride legaly since now i need my liscence to keep my job, getting caught isnt worth it anymore. Michigan offers the class's for $25, not a bad price at all. If you go to michigan.gov you can run a search on *motorcycle endorsement* you will find a list for all of michigan who offer the classes. You need to do this RIGHT NOW. All the classes within 50 miles of me are now fully booked till July.

he has asserted his dominance over competing males with the loud masculine sound form his exaust system, Females searching for a potential mate will be driven away by weaker exaust systems and attracted to his SLP.

Eh nothing specific, but I'm probably going to look into a 250cc anyways... those Kawi's look nice (the 2008).

Well I'd probably be taking it in Chicago, but you're right- I'm sure they do fill up fast. I'll have to look into that.

The new ninja 250 is pretty bad ass for a 250cc bike!

Personally, I wouldn't bother going through the 250cc stage. Later down the line, you will get really bored with it, and then ahve to go through the hassle of selling it/finding a bigger bike.

OT: It was 60* today and man did it feel great to be out on the bike!

See that's what I am thinking also, and since it would be my second mode of transportation (since I'll be dealing with Chitown traffic this summer and they're crazy asses when it comes to driving) I may as well find something I'll keep for a while.

Thats why I went with my R6, I always loved the R6. Its something I dont forsee me getting rid of for another bike anytime soon and it had low miles when I bought it. The key to buying in my opinion, is only settle for something that you are 100% satisfied with. Dont drop a few grand on something that you dont completley like. I LOVE my bike, and have no regrets on spending upwards of 5,000 on it.

I would strongly recommend taking the msf, hands down like the other guy posted def helped me with my skills....things i wouldn't have learned if i didn't take the course. I rode a 250 at the msf and nothing bigger b4 hand, my first bike which i still own is my 05 ninja zx6r-636 - its fast as balls. I got a few mods on it, but honestly out of the box it flys. I wouldn't recommend getting a 1000cc for a starter unless you've been riding for sometime, just my $0.02.
