The kit he is thinking of buying from me has already been fully rebuilt, so he won't have to worry about those problems.

He will have to worry about wasting money on a car that will never be truly fast however.

Listen to everyone here....i didnt SC my grand am but i did put alot of money inot it and now after a bad paint job, strut mounts squeeking like a mothasucka and a cracked front bumper, i just cant wait to trade the damn thing in for a nicer car. And with gas prices going up up up...you really should think about how much the higher octane fuel is gunna cost...just a tip

Guess it depends what he is looking for out of his car.... in the grand scheme of things an $1800 supercharger isn't much more than the sales tax on a new car.

Look at it this way....
If he still enjoys his car, and plans on driving it until it dies (assuming it is paid off), then why not? $1800 is a lot less than a year's worth of payments on a new car (or even a used car......many people here are in love with trading up to a used F-body or GTO, so the gas mileage argument is kinda moot there also).
Everyone knows that cars are one of the worst things in the world to spend money on, but we're enthusiasts......we all all a bit nuts.

Since yours is a 1999, I am assuming it has a lot of miles. If that's the case, don't even bother.

Another thread down the tubes?

Threadstarter, it sounds like you need to do more research before you decide that this is what you want to do.

zukiracer19 Still kinda new, but learning
well I was honestly thinking about putting this into the works... Mags gave me a really cool deal and woudl work with me on his Supercharger, but with gas prices i might just buy me a 4 banger... it dont look like its going down.

that would make it MORE prone to need rebuilding. Trust me, I'm well aware of the reliability rating of rebuilt turbo's (centrifugal SC core). The best thing to due when one sh1ts the bed is to buy a brand new one. it's sort of like the Human spine/back muscles. Once you have a back injury or surgery, you will never be 100% again even if it does fix the immediate pain and problem.

Its also easier for you to tell someone to save their money and get a new car because you already did it...Its hard when you see all the people on here with the same color/year/model car as you and theirs looks amazing...You just want what they want...Grand am's have potential to be VERY VERY nice show cars...But as stated, they are slow and it takes way too much money to make them "decently fast"

And to the topic at hand, like others have said, you dont seem to know what your in for..You cant just have some shop install a SC and expect to drive away into the sunset..
