Ferrari Not Impressed With Stretched 360

Threatens to sue:

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080313....-stretched-360

Quote:
Ferrari tuning, some see it as blasphemous while some argue that everything, including prancing pony super cars, can be improved upon. Most tuning companies draw the line at new rims, over-sized rear spoilers and carbon-fibre body kits, but sometimes you come across more extremely 'tuned' cars.

One of these extreme cars is the stretched 2000 Ferrari 360 which seats 8 people and is now on sale on eBay for GBP 150,000 (Euro 195,000). This is not a collectors item, this is a business all on its own and comes with two website URL's and will cost customers GBP 700 an hour to rent. The eight carbon fibre sport seats can be accessed through two huge electric gullwing doors.

Ferrari headquarters however are not amused by this unique Ferrari and sent out their lawyers to ask Dan Cawley, the current owner, to remove all Ferrari and 360 Modena badges from the car. Reasoning behind it is that the 6 meter long limo is no longer an actual Ferrari and that he is infringing on their copyright.

Cawley asks in return via TimesOnline: “What kind of precedent does it set when you can’t do what you like with your own property?”

IDK if Hummers are branded though... GM's force of lawyers would be the first to jump on something like that... I'd be interested to find out. Usually though, there are so many of them running around through small independent companies that it would be hard to find all of them and sue. Only when something like this comes to light (like in an ebay ad) will the companies take action, IMO.

Meh like I said, chances are GM won't care until something like that comes to mainstream light.

I, too have seen Escalades and Hummers, but know that GM has no licensed them for such.

All I have to say is, Ferrari better lose this battle...

Once they sell the car, the buyer is free to do as they so choose.

The hilarious part is that somebody made a stretch Ferrari years ago, sold it on ebay..and never got called on it by Ferrari. It even went for a pretty penny too.

Eh, technically, they are branding something that is NOT a Ferrari as something that is, and making money off of it. Ferrari sold them a 360, with two doors. If the company wanted to rent that to people to make money, fine. But once they make a new vehicle and call it something it is not, its infringement. It would be like that two door honda that someone put a Caddy CTS front end on selling it as a Caddy online.

The whole point is that he's making money off of the Ferrari image in a way they don't like. If he were simply selling the vehicle they'd have no grounds to stand on, even if he called it a Ferrari.

No it wouldn't be like that at all. I would be like taking a 360, chopping it in half, adding stuff in the middle, and putting it back together.....

Its a modification to the car, and if Ferrari doesn't like it, tough shiznit.... its no different than putting a body kit etc on a car, and leaving the factory badges on it...

Now, if this were a totally differnt car made to look lie a Ferrari, then I would agree... but its not.

Can I put rims on my GTO, or would it no longer be a GTO?? Since when does customizing a car warrant a lawsuit?

EXACTLY what I'm thinking! Its not Ferrari's car anymore so why do they care? This isn't a computer Operating system. It doesn't come with a "liscense" that prevents you from modding it. They bought the cars, they own the cars and they can do whatever they damn well please with the cars!
