Ferrari's, lambos, porsche, etc. are not niche cars. They are exotic cars. They are only niche cars to people who have no possibility of ever affording one.

Id say the 1964 Ford Mustang was a niche car, and it did pretty well.
What about the original VW beetle? Bugatti Veyron sells well.

Uh, nobody is trying to prove him wrong. He asked a valid question as to whether anyone can think of a niche car that sold well, and we're answering it or attempting to answer it.

I'd consider the HHR, PT Cruiser, and Thunderbird "niche" products.
All are doing well enough to have stayed in production so far right? IMO I think this will sell. Not in large amounts but I think if GM keeps it pretty small scale they'll reach their goal. For the Ute though, I think the V6 is key. Styling is not as bland as the GTO was in it was first released but with soaring gas prices I think people will go for a car/truck hybrid. Unrelated but Scion is doing great with the market they're geared toward and their line-up almost entirely consists of non-typical cars. Except for the tC the xA and xB are pretty unique entries in the market yet are selling decently. It's apples to oranges but there is hope for niche vehicles that are priced right.

that looks familiar...oh wait....
![]() Thats my car! except in yellow instead of black. Is the Cavalier LS Sport considered a niche vehicle? They are kinda rare but I think thats mostly because they didn't sell all that well due to the base cavie starting at $11,000. I bought mine used in december of 2006, $9,500 16,000 miles. Honestly I love it. Thus far its been the most reliable, best car I've ever had! Great fuel economy, great pickup and go, great handling, and probably the best looking set of chrometech rims GM ever made |

Uhh. I just threw up inmy mouth. Aztecs were fugly to say the least.
I think the HHR and the T-Bird are more niche than the Cruiser. The cruiser has sold a bit more than both of those and thought of as more mainstream. HHR's and T-Birds are more towards "semi-exotics" like the Prowler IMO.

Vibe/Matrix? Car/Van hybrids like the aforementioned as well as the CX7, Rav4, CRV, etc. are big sellers.
Even though it seems like a dumb idea I still see a light at the end of the tunnel for a G8 ST. It's key that pricing is on point and numbers are kept minimal. |

See the crossover/hybrid vehicles would be complicated. At the moment you could consider them a niche product, but in the long run they're supposed to take over and replace a lot of the markets..atleast that's the goal it seems.
So you could say that any crossover vehicle that survives "x" number of years counts. |

I have 2 Ecotec cavi's. Great car. My cars are much much better than people give it credit without having any experience owning one. I bought one and liked it so much I bought another. Best thing GM ever did for the J was put the suspension, engine and transmission from the LS Sport/2002 Z24 on all J-bodies from 2003-2005. |
