actually that's pretty cheap, anyone that wants a decent HO alt should expect to pay 2-3x that much.

good find

I got mine respun for 200 Amps, and it only cost me $100. I knew the guy a little bit, but I don't think he would charge much more for someone else. I have had it for 3yrs now and it works great. That eBay one seems a little high to me too.

One would think that this should fit a +99 V6, I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

So using your own equipment for 100$ vs a brand new unit for 200 seems high? k...

Let's break things down..

A stock replacement alt from gmpartsdirect (for pricing purposes) for an 03-05 gagt is $165.67 (MSRP $318.60)

Now, if you were to get it respun at your $100 price (we would assume more if you didn't know the guy) it would be $265.67 for a new unit, $418.60 if the unit were purchased through the dealer and respun.

What you are using to judge the price is the work for a respin. You are not calculating in the value of the alternator itself as well. The value of it, even used, puts it at about what he is asking. Hell, with the $290 he was charged for his respin (since he didn't have the hook up like you) that makes this a STEAL. You are paying less for the whole thing than the seller paid for the respin alone.

Common sense people, use it.

Yeah... but why would you pay $200 for used unit, when you can have your own respun for $100 or so. I can see spending $200 it if you don't have one for some reason or if you need a whole new alt.

I guess I am doubting the fact that the guy spent $290 to have it respun. That seems a little high to me, whether I know someone or not. I find it hard to believe that he had to pay $290 but anybody could have it done for half the price anywhere.

Has anybody else paid to have their alternator respun? How much did you pay?

It's not a new unit. Read the description. It is used for about 10,000 miles. 10,000 miles prob means more like 15000 or more anyway.

My question is asking if anybody else has had their alternator respun, and if so, how much did they pay.

How did you answer that in your post?

Who needs a 200A amp though? The GA seems to hate any changes to the electrical system as is. I purchased mine from www.mralternator.com powdercoated for right around $200. Only 160A but still more than stock- nonetheless dimming lights were an issue for years that I learned to deal with and after MJ did some research we traced it back to an HO alt.

You asked more questions than that, and I answered all the other ones you asked. Seriously, I'm getting tired of the laziness to read and comprehend.

This is how im looking at this.

If someone doesnt have one, that is a good deal. Even the one that SSracer and Sik posted is still a good deal.

Now, you live in MI and I live in NY ( city) I will almost say that I would pay close to 175 or better to have my alt spun. It all depends on where u live, and I would think everyone would agree with me on that one. So the price that he may have said may be true. High to you , yes it would be seeing that you paid 100 to have it done, and dont forget , you " knew the guy a little bit." Send someone in there that he doesnt know and see what he would charge. Then compare to what you paid and see what kind of deal u got.

More info on this?

I have a MR alt right now and it has always sucked more than the stocker at idle. My volt gauge will drop to 12 with just the headlights on at a stop. That's why I'm looking at the one from db because they state that it is 115 amp at idle, which is more than stock at full blast.
