Three 4 Gauge cables or one 0 Gauge
Does anyone know if there would be any problem running a 4 gauge power cable to each of my 3 amps instead of one 0 gauge cable? I know the single 0 gauge would be easier than running three - 4gauge's, but I already have a good 50ft. of 4 gauge cable and would rather not spend the extra money if it's all the same and won't cause any problems with noise or anything like that. Thanks

You will be fine with that but I would use a 0 gauge terminal to connect all 3 of them. The only problem I would see is where are you going to run it? You are not going to fit all 3 under the sill.
Even the 0 you wont fit under the sill either.

Yeah Rosado is right it wont fit and don't try forcing it to fit because you will brake the clips off the sill. Of course you can only guess how I know that.

Sounds good. Thanks guys. I was wondering about fitting the cable. I haven't had a chance to pull off the sill yet and see whats going on under there. I've only had the car about a week and have been fighting a nasty flu since I got it. I'm hoping they'll be room under the carpet or something. I figure there's gotta be cables running to the back somewhere.

I would go 0, and take the time to take out the seats and carpet and run it underneath the carpet, but thats me. Is there a grommet in the firewall to run it, or do you have to drill one? I'll be running 4 here soon through mine.

The 4 ga should work just fine. I'm running 4 ga back to a block, then splinting from that to four amps. Mine does just fine, but it's up to you.

That's why I was wondering what people were talking about... and why he just doesn't run it through the grommet. I have two grommets, both are pretty big. One is totally unused. I ran my 4awg through there with PLENTY of room to spare. |

other than the size, i would think about the impedence of the cables, the 4ga may have a better impedence rating than the 0 ga depending on where you got them from. that is something that is often overlooked by a lot of people doing car audio

and it would look like your carpet has a boner. You may pull off 3 4ga wires but not a 0 ga.Mendoza does this for a living. I do this for a living and more. I ran my 0 ga under the car. Its is safe ONLY if you do the right job.

Yeah I'm gonna take a look and see if I can get away with running the 3 - 4awg cables under the carpet. I'm also big on sound quality but I don't think I'd try to hide a 0AWG under there. If worse comes to worse I'll get the wire loom and run it under the car. I hadn't considered doing it that way cause I was always told it was a big no no, but after seeing what you guys have done with your cars, you obviously know what you're doing. Besides, when I think about, it I can't see why it would be a problem if I use the loom and do it right. Hopefully I'll have it all done by the end of the week. Thanks everyone for all the ideas.

+1 under the carpet.
I pulled the passenger seat out and ran the wire under the center console and carpet. I have an 0AWG wire and it fit no problem. Also, under the car....under the sill.... Come on guys, why poke holes in the car if you can just take a few minutes to rip out some of the interior? I swear more people are afraid to unbolt something but will glady pull out Mr. Drill and go at it when you don't need to. No, this is not a jab at anyone. |

Yea show me a pic of it.
Your telling me that it doesnt stick out or it can be seen as a lump... Well I guess the guys that installed the system in my car had no idea what they were doing. I do this for a living and I had to have someone else do it the install cuz of the sponsership. Well let me call them and let them know that they were scared to take the interior and run it under the carpet along with the rest of the wires that are running up the middle of the car... Dont swear, its not nice! People are not afraid, they just dont know how to do it. Dont knock Mr.Drill hes a cool drill and loves to be used.

If you don't have nothing nice to say, just swear...I think that's the old saying ![]() Lump...actually no. I ran it along the side on the hump near the floor, not right on top. So it is hidden pretty good....I didn't take a pic of my hump. But, I would rather have had a slight hump in the 10 inches of floor than run it under...It just seemed better to me, IMO...I have always been a stickler about "clean" installs. I hate seeing wires. As far as the "guys that installed it." Come on now. You know that I wasn't taking a shot (^^^ look at the 'no jab' disclamer). Yes, your install HAD TO have the wire run underneath because you are a crazy person who has too bukoo power . But, the OP is only running the (3) 4-AWG and probably his RCAs and the remote. That should all fit, aka...no need Mr. Drill, wouldn't you concur? I'm sure he would rather not drill if he does not need to. That's all I was trying to tell him.Don't get me wrong I like Mr. Drill too. He helps me out a lot. BTW, I still want to see pics of this install. I'm dying here... I ran a 1 gauge under my sill for a trunk mounted battery and all I had to do was dremel out the plastic ribbing in a few places to make it snap back down. The rear panel that sits against the seat bottom had to have a little bit of surgery as well but it cant be seen once its tucked back in where it needs to be. I also had to grind off a tiny bit of the styrofoam because it was pushing the panel away from the body but all in all it turned out well. Its fused and loomed up to the point where it runs under the sill and no problems with anything popping off so far.
I do have a coupe though so the sill is only one piece so I cant speak for how well this would work in a sedan.

I should take a picture of my rear deck.
Show you what Mr. Drill did to it. It doesn't really look like a rear deck anymore. Mr. Drill and I are no longer on speaking terms. |
