WOW excellent idea put a 4 cylinder in a car probably about 3800 lbs. Is GM retarded if someone is worried about fuel prices they arent going to consider a camaro in the first place and I don't understand how putting the same engine as a sky/solstice in there is going to help you'll still have to use 93 octane and it will probably get 17-19mpg city tops...404 fuel efficiency not found. I just don't get it I understand offering a v6 for women and mid life crisis men but don't ruin the camaro name with a 4 cylinder

sik did you buy a few thousand shares of GM or something?

I really, really, really am hoping this car fails miserably. IMO, it's one pile of sh1 t shoveled after another with GM. They need to either say "fock the CAFE regs" and go with aggressive styling and "wow" cars. Or they need to back off with their tail between their legs and make it obvious they are going in a direction to save money for the company and increase fuel mileage. This playing both sides of the fence sh1t is ridiculous.

Every day I read the new car rumors, is another day I begin to love my GTO even more. For once, I think I found a car I TRULY enjoy and don't want to get rid of for the next "cool thing". Also glad I got rid of the 2004 for the 2006 last May before they were all gone. My 2004 would have been ready for turn in here in a couple months and honestly...there is ZERO in the marketplace by anyone right now that interests me sans the Corvette Z06.

Ford is already working on that from what I hear. They are considering a turbo V6 to be the top engine in the Stang in a few years.

And then look what happened in the 90s and 2000s!

Honestly, I just want to see the production Camaro and judge for myself. The V-8 IS still there and ready to give me 400+ hp. If having more options (4 & 6) cylinders is what GM wants for the public with around the same MPG, then why not? More will sell this way with the "better" gas mileage anyways.

You know there will be people that will think, "Wow a 4-cylinder with "better" MPG AND I can still buy a Camaro?, sweet!" And they will!

40 hp may be the difference between a turbo 4 and the NA 3.6 with direct injection, but the powerband is not going to be close. The 3.6 is outselling the V8s in the caddies so it makes sense to keep using that engine.

You couldn't have said it any better than I could. I agree 100% The V8 is still being offered so really who cares what other engines they offer. So they are going to offer a 4 banger with better fuel economy and STILL offer the V8....why does it matter? Its for this very reason that the mustang is the longest selling car line without a gap and the camaro/firebird isn't. I could care less about the V6 mustangs, but ultimatley they are he reason why we have the badass shelby GT500 available. GM is trying to do the same thing...is there anything wrong with it? Lets face it more people will buy the Camaro because of the "look" than the power. Thats exactly whats sold mustangs and GM is just being smart by following example.

I'm so sick of people bringing up "heritage" and all that crap. Who cares. if it matters that much to you than buy a V8. It is available.

BTW good tos ee you again Pontiac Ninja. Long time no see!

Will Camaro lose its muscle?

John LeBlanc
Wheels.ca

Mar 26, 2008

Remember all that talk about Chevrolet’s new Camaro coupe as a “modern muscle car” -- a rebirth of the halcyon days of the late 1960s when Camaros with honking big V8s prowled cruise nights and drag strips?

Well now, General Motors is trying to do a public relations spin job that would even make an Olympic figure skater woozy.

“We won’t position it as a muscle car,” Mark LaNeve, GM North America’s vice-president of sales and marketing, said recently in a Business Week article.

“The mainstream positioning will be fuel economy, design and a V6,” when the Camaro goes on sale next year.

Of course, LaNeve’s comments highlight how the Camaro’s well-earned performance image contradicts Chevrolet’s current “Gas-Friendly, Gas-Free” campaign that promotes GM’s ethanol-powered engines, hybrids and research into hydrogen fuel cells.

Now, all of a sudden, there are a bunch of concerns for a car that's been a darling with the auto buff mags since its introduction at the Detroit show in 2006.

For instance: just how big is the pony car sales pie? Both the new Camaro and Dodge's Challenger were kneejerk reactions to Ford selling nearly 170,000 Mustangs after its refresh in 2005.Are there enough buyers to support the two new products?

Ford already had an established customer base: It never stopped making its 'Stang, unlike the Chevy and the Dodge (the last Camaro died in 2002, the Challenger in 1974.) And at a time when new-car buyers want fuel efficiency and practicality first, if the Chevrolet coupe is only seen as a V8 performance car, limited sales are almost a guarantee.

The irony of this product-planning snafu is Pontiac’s recent resurrection as GM’s performance brand, as witnessed at last week’s New York auto show.

Instead of a Firebird coupe that should have been developed alongside the Camaro, Pontiac announced a half-car, half-truck based on its G8 GT rear-drive sedan.

Hmm…"Camaro"…"economy car"…let me get back to you on that…

Like usual, GM fails and tries to do public relations spin zone so as to not look like a bunch of complete focking morons.

GM dragged their ass on getting this car approved and to market. They missed the rebirth of the muscle car/horsepower era. Now they need to rethink what to do since they are in fuel economy hell with a car they already jumped into as a known gas chugger.

Love my GTO, gets pretty fair MPG with lots of power....and is no doubt better built than this hideous Camaro will be.

b/c a turbo 4 cylinder will not offer better fuel economy look at the saturn sky redline it gets marginally better fuel efficiency than a GTO...I don't know what GM is thinking offering a 4 cylinder its obviously not for fuel economy something else is going on here

Leaked images reveal GM Performance parts likely for 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Images of the road-going 2010 Chevrolet Camaro convertible were leaked online earlier today, and now Leftlane has acquired two images of a model Camaro decked out in GM Performance Parts that will be available when the latest entrant into the pony car segment launches next year.

When the Camaro launches next spring, look for GM Performance to offer:
-Custom seven-spoke wheels
-Ground effects kit
-Duck-tail and high-rise rear spoilers
-Front grille insert
-Rear-fascia blackout
-RS and SS decal packages (RS package shown)

That list is likely to expand as the Camaro nears productions, with probable upgrades including a cold air intake, performance exhaust and many others.

No ****, CTSV isnt out yet, so how could people buy the V8? STS and DTS are both nearly dead as well, so sales numbers from either cars would be irrelevant.

You do realize that the previous gen CTS was offered in 2 V6 trims and the CTSV had the 8 right? Almost positive that's what Vegeta was referring to. I drove an 08 CTS and the 3.6 is a very smooth engine- had I not went German this would have easily been my 2nd choice.
