I should be able to still make 12's (or damn close) but not to the expectations I originally had. If I don't make it, oh well.

Good luck hitting 12's UNTUNED with STREET TIRES. I don't see 12's happening with a half ass tuned car.

I never said you weren't trying. You try to read between the lines too much.

All i was TRYING to say, but you cl;early misunderstood is. There's no point in putting a man down for trying. Especially when he's polite about it. It's not like if he was. Hey look at me i'm the best. My tune is perfect i'm gonna beat you all at this competition. And calling everyone a loser.

On your end though, you're being ****y and an ass. You put down a guy because his tune isn't perfect. You seem to have failed to notice that he doesn't have the time to tune it perfectly.

And if you "have your turbo, that i don't" then why don't you put your pedal where you're mouth is and go and hit the 12s?

And even if i don't have a turbo, who cares? I never said i was taking part in this competition. And putting 3 to 5 grand in an Alero isn't worth it on a student's salary up here in Canada since while you guys pay 3 to 3 and a half $ per gallon on 87 octane. We pay the equivalent 4,50$ a gallon of the same fuel grade. We get completely ripped off. Let's not forget the temperature adjustments the fuel pumps use for volume correction which is completely inaccurate for our climate which rips us off of more gas.

Try to think before you make yourself look like an *******

Normally I would just say screw it cause you canadian but...

First off I never ripped on him.. I said GOOD LUCK hitting 12's untuned and with street tires... personally I dont think he should EXPECT 12's with that... Secondly stop being a p*ssy yourself give me reasons like $4.50 a gallon that has nothing to do with 12's. I did my whole setup for roughly $1700. 3 to 5k??? dont think so... Im not even going to touch on the fuel pump issue you think you have as you quote is completely INACCURATE for our climate... you have very little knowledge about cars in general.

Have a good night.

by fuel pump i mean the gas station's fuel pump. In Canada they regulate the volume of gas that goes from the pump to the gas tank by adjusting the "volume" to 15 degrees Celsius, which is a lot higher then the average temperature of the country. That, in turn, means we get a lot less gas then what we should be getting when we go to the pump. I didn't mean the fuel pump of the car itself, my bad for not being clear.

and the gas price has everything to do with doing performance mods or not since making a car faster also makes it thirstier. Especially a turbo setup. And even 1700$, it's a good ammount of money for my budget.

And fine, sorry for not interpreting correctly the way you were talking about his run.

EDIT

Little detail to explain my first point about the fuel volume adjustment.

Fuel, like anything. Expands in higher temperatures. So the hotter it is, the less fuel you actually have per volume.

The average temperature in canada is 6 degrees celsius, not 15. these 9 degrees make a huge difference. In the province of Ontario alone the fuel companies rip us off of 100 000 000$ worth of fuel every year. And no im not making these numbers up.

If your car meets all guidelines established in the beginning of this thread, you're in. You just gotta be first to meet the goal quarter mile time with two consistent runs and have a picture of your actual timeslips as proof

Don't want to get involved in your guys argument... just want to make a point about this statement.

The point is, if the setup or tune isn't good yet, he shouldn't run it. What's the point of racing a car when it's not going to meet your expectations and could possibly self destruct? Even if the engine and/or trans doesn't have problems, it's more than likely he's not going to get enough traction on street tires to even break into the twelves. He should wait until the car's ready. Especially after spending that much time and money on it.

Yeah, we're all busy and have limits on our time/money. My car has been back on the road for over two years now. I'm still making little improvements on it though and working on the tuning, but work and life and responsibilities keep me from devoting a lot of time to getting it done. So guess what... I've kept it off the track and dyno until I get it the way I want it... no matter how much I'd like to know how it will do or how many times people ask me how fast it is or how much HP it has. It's called being patient and making responsible decisions.

For the record my car is always half ass tuned and I made 12's.

Even on a blown headgasket and clutch I did it again.

It doesn't take much, it just takes a lil luck.

Luck huh??

I'll never hit 12's if it takes luck.

How much power you pushing through that 4 cyl again??? oh yeah like 400...
but again you just need luck, nothing to do with the 400 hp.

Takes pure luck for the 4 cyl to hit 12's AND survive while pushing 400 HP with a blown gasket.

But asside from that, yeah, 400hp helps .

agreed for the most part, and thanks for sounding oddly supportive. However, I mis-represent a few things here, not by intent, just by hasty typing.

By "street tires" I mean DOT drag radials rather than full slicks. I just picked up a set of BF Goodrich T/A Drag Radials cheap. I know they aren't top of the line, but they're better than the daily tires I have on it now.

And by "half-assed tune" I mean that I'm tuned up to the point of boost I'm planning on running. that's why I said I won't be running the amount of boost I had planned.

as far as responsible decisions, I have nothing to lose at this point. I'm going to the sand box again, and I plan to have a little fun before I leave. Once I get back, I'm building a fully forged bottom end from scratch, so there's really nothing at stake here but a left-over motor if it fails and possibly a little disappointment.

In the mean time, I'm just going to go to the track, raise a few unsuspecting eyebrows and have a good time. Trailer is on hand in case it doesn't work out.

go for it all out on this one. If every tuner waited until all the bugs were out of their cars before running them, we would never see some of the great cars we have.

I would like to politely point out two things:

1) great cars are developed by Aaron's correct assessment of utilizing patience and doing it right (aside from lots of money).

2) I hate the connotation of the term "tuner". It reminds me of a POS half-assed built ryce-eating import with a fart can, and I think we are (at least I am) trying to break away from that stigma. I think most people assume that if it's late-model, FWD, and modified, it's a "tuner".

It also reminds me of Larry the Cable Guy saying "Hey ya'll wanna get a tuner-fish samwich?"

Points taken.

those I meant by tuners are Callaway, Henessy, and Shelby. All would claim to be tuners of high end sports cars. I do not like the association that tuner = ricer, that is not what I meant.

Great cars are carefully developed, but they are almost always run before all the bugs are worked out to see how the real world affects them. Run it to see how much more needs to be done for full potential
