There was never a 5.0 SHO... The first generation had a 3.0 V6, the second generation had a tiny Yamaha V8.

The Fusion acctually was the replacement for the Taurus, but the five-hundred sucked so bad they had to re-name it Taurus to get it to sell, in which I still don't think it has. So in actuality its a new five hundred, the old Taurus body and platform are completly dead.

I too wouldn't mind seeing the taurus name go away. I liked the late 80's/mid 90's body style but I hate the newer ones.

SVT contour only handled nice. It was too slow.... actually, the same can be said of the SVT Focus. They should have put some balls in those cars.

^Thats what made those cars so fun to toss around. They handled great, but were tame enough that young drivers could not only afford them but also stay out of trouble. I drove a used SVT Contour way back in '01 when I was looking at the GA and almost went for it.

I just don't understand why Ford needs the Focus,Fusion,Taurus,Mustang,Taurus X. They really Need 5 Car's? I know the X is a Ghey attempt at a Crossover but still its a Car.

A Contour was actually my first car... it was alright... but like all Fords, there were a lot of stupid things done to it.

My favorite example is the tranny line... which was run SO CLOSE to the tranny that the natural vibration and movement of the tranny would knock against the tranny line... constantly wearing it down over and over again...

and the lights on the thing were ****.. could barely even see and the headlamps were fine w/ new light bulbs... just the way they were built..

The wife had a 99 base model. What a POS. I've heard good things about the SVT's, but the rest of the line sucked balls.

I agree, the Boring Taurus looks nothing like the new fugly 6. Looks like the Aztec design team keeps jumping around car companies. First Pontiac, then Honda, now Mazda. Who's next to get beaten with the ugly stick?

actually, that gen sho was either a 3.0 DOHC or a 3.2. i had the DOHC version. that thing was sick. IMO that is the best taurus and there will NEVER be a better one. Ford FTMFL anyway.

I test drove a low miles but not new SLO back in 93... the clutch went up in smoke without even flooring it, and the sales guy kept trying to sell it to me anyway said that service would replace the clutch that afternoon (it obviously wasn't my fault that the clutch literally smoked).

I never got the thing over 40mph.
