They can probably fab a piece of plastic to fill the space at the install place.

The jvc kameleon is a nice deck. I don't like the touch sceen volume/menu control i wish they would do a rotoary. The one i have in the display works well but it stopped playing dvd's after about 3 months of robin hood on repeat.
The phaze linear flip out only made it about a month 1/2. So far the Kenwood and pioneer seem to hold out for months and months. Never had one go bad yet. |

For that price I built a fully functional Carputer with fold out lcd in the dash.
It plays dvds, navigates with gps, and stores all of my music, has a mixer, internet, and hands free capabilities, all packed into a nice front end that is touchscreen friendly. The wiring and final touches aren't done yet though, and the the standard HU is gonna go once i solder up the wires from the computers sound card. http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...413081649a.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...0203081851.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...0203081850.jpg

Hey Steve,
So you used two single DIN units and put them together. That's pretty cool.

Actually I do for now. I really had no other way to attach them so i used double stick tape to level them out in the back and then tightly wrapped them toghether in good duct tape. I then slid them in and clipped the front facia on which made it all snug. It actually worked out well and is a temporary solution.

Wow. Duct tape and sticky tape. Some of the GP tools us guys use to fix things or make them work...

Pioneer, Kenwood, and Alpine are the only brands of Head Unit I will buy. Never had one go out or break. My latest Pioneer is running over a year strong. The more expensive you go the more tuneability you will have. I would love to put my 6.5" Flip Up in my GA but there is a CD stuck in it, I bought it used from my old roomate for said reason. I want to do a 7" LCD that folds out like the new GP GXP's and SUVs have.

This is a single din unit right? Then whatever install kist you choose will take care of any gaps. Did I miss something unusual about the install?
Not trying to be rude but seems like a pretty simple answer....and the fact no one else has said this made me read all posts again to make sure i read everything correctly. Where did you buy the unit? Seems if it was a retail store they would have tried to sale you all the add-ons with it.....i.e. wiring harness, antenna adapter, and install kit!? If you bought it from Crutchfield, they would've given it all for free. As far as amps go there are about 1000+ choices. Need to know a little more about what you are trying to accomplish. If just addin an amp for sub(s) need to know what they are, power, resistance, etc. |

Its all good man sorry im new to the car game. Bought the unit at BestBuy and no add ons with it, just bought installation kit today for it so space is no longer an issue, and i bought new Kenwood Amp and 2 12" Kenwood Subs. And all were recommended and advised by a friend of mine who does systems for a living. One issue left, Custom Box. Where can I find a custom fiberglass box for my system????

Well, honestly you said a "custom" fiberglass box. Don't think you will just find one. At your level i definitely wouldn't recommend trying it on your own. And, it wont be that cheap to pay someone to do it. If you have a lot of patience, there are plenty of tutorials on-line for fiberglassing. Check diymobileaudio.com or 12volt.com, or even icixsound.com.
What exactly are you trying to achieve with a custom box? Sounds like a lot of trouble to go through to just add a couple Kenwood subs. |

I would go with Pioneer DEH-P6000 adding a Pioneer Bleutouth Module for a full handsfree operations. The deck works great with an IPOD I have my IPOD now put away in glove box and control everything from deck, also with the Bleutouth module I control my cell phone (receiving, making calls) all from the unit using the great remote. Another plus it has 3 RCD Ouputs this allow you a little more control over your subs
Also remember you will need to purchase an module to control some of the ding, ding that are coming from the factory stereo All notification i.e. door is open, low on gas goes via your stock stero. Not sure the make and model but if applicable add about $75 for the module. The Deck you can get for about $200 and Bleutouth about $250 Im going with Canadian prices Last edited by dagenais; 06-02-2008 at 10:45 PM. |

$1000 for Kicker CVR's!!!!!!!!! That is f'n rediculous!!!! I am assuming at least $300 of that is for the install. If you have the money, why blow it on that equipment. Get better stuff and learn to make a fiberglass enclosure. It really isnt that hard to do. I can think of a lot better ways to spend that thousand.
Not trying to be an ass, but damn. You are getting hosed on that deal, even at retail....which why would you pay retail for something you can easily get online?. If we were talking about a specialty speaker or something....than yeah, go to the b&m shop.....but we're talking about Kicker. And BTW, how exactly do you have a sealed AND ported box? Other than putting in a bandbass enclosure, which....dear Lord, surely you cant possibly be doing. Plus, I dont believe Kicker subs can. And why a HUGE box? CVR's use somewhat small enclosures. The CVR's are definitely a jump up from those Kenwoods, but if you have that kind of $$ you shouldnt have been looking at either in the first place. |
