90 z24

So I picked up a 1990 Z24 Cavalier 3.1L engine soon to be 3.4L So far i love the car the body is in amazing condition no rust except for a little bit around the wheel wells. So far for mods i have got clear corners, cold air intake, custom exhaust with resinator, hypertech tuning chip, mrz performance under drive pully, rims off of a 97 Z, eibach lowering springs and a few other smal mods. just wondering if anyone else had any suggestions as to what i could do to spice the car up a little bit..? also i am having one prob witht he car.. it is a 5 speed standard and sometimes when i drive the car and am coming to a stop and put it in neutral the car will jsut die on me unless i give it some gas while i am stopping which is a real pain in the ass and annoys me so much.. i am thinking it may be the crank shaft position senser but was wondering if anyone else had any knowledge as to what this might be?

i will be posting pictures of the cav up soon if anyone wants to take a look..

That's the best body style IMO before they stopped using the V6, like the Sunbird GT.

I had a red 1989 with the 2.8L as my first "real" car after the initial hoopty learner car. I had 5 spoke rims on it, tint, Pioneer double din CD player with visual equalizer (big thing then!!) and (2) 12" Lanzar subs. Man, that stereo sh1t is embarasing now...sorry stereo guys.

Anyway, this was my dad's car new, then he gave it to me and took my hoopty I had paid off to trade in on his new 1995 white Grand Am GT coupe (he even special ordered it WITHOUT the white wheels that everyone had, the stock machined wheels looked awesome on that white! Why everyone got the white wheels is beyong me). So in essence I got the Z24 for $4000 and it was 4 years old, still cherry. I had that car until 2000 when I bought my silvermist Grand Am GT Coupe. It was sad trading her in, she was a phenomenal car and still looked and ran great. But she had cancer of the floor boards and 129,000 on the clock.

The 89-90 model Z24's were incredibly built cars, especially for their price and place in the lineup. Those 2 year models lasted very long on the streets. Not like the plain bullsh1t and 4-cylinders the eventually switched to. My dad bought the car GM Option I and I think sticker was $12,500!!! So he paid about $10000!! cruise, A/C, automatic.

lanzar subs

A 3.4 in that car should haul since its probably a good 800lbs lighter than a grand am. The stalling does sound like it could be the CPS.

I've got a spare 3400 in my garage. I've been looking for a decent condition Gen I or II Z-24 6cyl/5spd for a while now to do the same thing. I really like the Gen I hatchback Z-24 (I know...it's like a redhead stepchild, but what can I say? I like it!) Haven't found one that's in decent shape nearby as of yet. Good luck with the swap. Good times!

z24

I remember my brother bought a 87z24 brand new. It was that nice blue with 5sp and the cowl hood. I was 14 and thought that car was the ****. With its digital dash. I want to find an 87 in decent shape. Just for memories and because I always like that car. I think that all of the z24s with the exception of the newer 4cyl. models were cool. My buddy had an 89 with a 5sp(bought brand new), and we use to cruise in that thing like we were in a porsche. I look back now and think what a couple of jackasses.

I know, I knew nothing about subs and that was his sponsor. He was pushing that they were amarican made. They weren't Kmart quality, but still, mehh. Who cares though, big bass pounding stereos are focking queer now anyways.

Great buy. Those cavaliers are amazing cars, especially during those years. The engine will outlast that body by a long shot. Keep the body perfect, and you will have a car for life!

have you checked out this site? seemed pretty cool when i was looking around. dropping the 3.4 in there should be sweet. i dont mind the body style to much either. my brother had one for a little bit that was 3 different colors. looked like crap but it got the job done.

yeah ive seen that site.. i am currently a member they have some pretty sick cavys on there. the only thing is everyone does the same thing tot here cars i wanna think of something to make mine unique, like for the body i mean as far as engine 3.4 or 3.8 supercharged is the only way to go :P the car used to be a sort of burgendy but got it painted after market metallic silver which looks a hell of alot better this is jsut gonna be a project car for now i am still using my grand am as the daily driver.
