Considering the car is 6 months from launch, and there's still been jack sh1t on its final build specs.....I'd say it's about time it was at the Proving Grounds being put through its paces.
You heard it here first, after the initial hard on for this car by Camaro lovers when it hits market (whom half would buy it even if it was a pink looking poodle on wheels, simply because it says "Camaro") it will = epic fail.

from Leftlanenews:
Availability Circle Monday, February 16, 2009 on your calendar as the date the new 2010 Camaros will start heading down the production line at the Oshawa plant in Ontario. In actuality, this means it will more than likely be mid-March before you'll be able to put your hands on one at a dealership. That puts Camaro availability about a year behind that of its nearest rival, the Dodge Challenger. A few GM higher ups have stated that the General will start making Camaros in late 2008. That's true, but, a little misleading. Salable, pilot build, Camaros will be the cars rolling down the line in late 2008. This run of cars will be given to engineers, execs and managers to drive for some fast feedback on any last minute changes that might need to be made to the car or the production process. This production run will not be available to the general public to buy. For those seeking a convertible Camaro, you'll have to wait until Monday, December 7, 2009 — a little bit late for the 2009 convertible season in northern climates. Look for them to start showing up at dealers in late December or early January depending on where you are in the United States. It's also worth mentioning that these dates are valid as of today. If the Camaro program should hit a snag in its final testing regimens, delays of several days to a few weeks or months are always possible, but unlikely.

As they did with the GTO, GM still doesn't have a focking clue that RWD vehicles DO NOT GET DEBUTED IN COLD MONTHS!!!! This car should be released in late APRIL-early MAY. Also coincides with most peoples tax returns!! In addition, if you aren't going to release the convertible within 2-3 months from then, WAIT A YEAR (they're screwed either way unless they release it same time as launch).
A Camaro loving trailer park girl on LS2GTO is on the focus groups for this, she knows the engineer through her past Camaro days. They just had a focus group last week that went over the final 20% of the car, which most would say was the horrendous interior. So, the car is less than a year away, still needs 20% of it still completed, yet is taking forever to get to market. This car should have been on dealer lots last June-July. It's turning into a debacle because GM is afraid of the fuel mileage war, and plain 'ol losing their ass because they have so much riding on this car. If this car doesn't sell 60-80,000 units a year for all models added, it will be a failure.

^ I disagree with the sales numbers and the failure verdict. Because the Camaro shares it's platform with many variations around the world, GM is less dependent on the Camaro version than in the old F-body days. I would say that as long as GM gets ~150,000 sales of Zeta based vehicles around the world the platform will be profitable.
GM got hurt selling ~80,000 F-Bodies a year in the late 90's. This time, there are plenty of G8s, Monaros, and other versions to pick up the Camaro's slack. With the rumored merger of the Sigma and Zeta platforms coming for the next generation of cars there will be even more variation in the mix. |

This car will be the only real sport coupe GM has in it's entire lineup aside from the Vette. A solstice GXP/Sky Redline/G6 GXP/G8/etc. does not fit into this market setup. This car IS GMs Mustang whether they want to admit it or not. This will be a U.S.A. based market sports car. And even if GM doesn't want to admit it, or think otherwise, that's what the general public will see it as, even if it's simply because they know what "Camaro" stands for. Between V6, V8, SS I think they must sell 60-80k units a year to pull themself out of the hole they are in. I think they can sell less and be fine with the entire project being a success financially (ie. being in the black rather than red), but I don't think GM simply wants to make a small profit on these. No business takes that approach!
I can guarantee one thing...we know as soon as these hit every Camaro dork will have a boner and rush out and buy one, and pay way over MSRP. Most car mags around the world will say it has good power, but the interior and finish sucks...that's inevitable. The real test will be Oct-Feb '09-'10, That will be a few months after the initial boner stage wears off and it's time for the car to sell itself year round. This time period I gave is an analogy to the writer's strike this year in TV. You knew there was going to be trouble, but were the shows going to come back when the writers did and be just as solid (for the most part, none did, and many new shows got axed because of it)....in this case you know the Camaro is going to have trouble in those months, but when weather breaks are people going to love the car and want it just as much???? If they can't push 2000-3000 out the door a month starting March-June 2010 this car will be dead in the water! It will have been out one year, with maybe only 6 months of that a true hot cycle (ie. car launch) where I doubt they'll even push 2,000 in sales each month. In winter I'd bet sub-1000. So in one year, when it first comes out after all this time and people are hyped, I bet they don't even sell 15,000 Camaro's. That's on par with the limited production rate GTO. That following spring will be crucial to increase sales or the car will simply die a slow death. Fuel prices may be a factor in this, but I'm not even including that as a big problem in this, just a lumped in reason for any of them that someone doesn't buy the car. There's absolutely no way GM is going into this with 4 model variants (v6, v8, SS, convertible) and only shooting for 40-50,000 units sold a year. **I am taking this estimate based on how GTO sales went, which was constantly recorded on the GTO forum with total sales each month as it happened, and then by year. The market for these cars is the same buyer.

The first winter will be a good test of the staying power of the car, I agree. The approach that GM takes with the car in it's 2nd and 3rd year of production will be interesting. Will they come up with relentless "special editions" like Ford has, or will they actually make changes that aren't just tacked on badges? The new Camaro is coming back to a completely different world than the old Camaro left from. The same people who used to buy an F-body could now be interested in the Kappa twins at the low end and the CTS Coupe at the high end. Time will tell... |

The rest of us know that GM's interior and fit and finish quality has gone up in recent years and rivals most of the rest of the world now. I've never really had a problem with their interiors anyway. I think Honda and Toyota interiors are boring and look like ****. Back on topic... did anyone hear anything more about what went on with the car last weekend? My parents where actually at Milford with their corvette club at the same time, but they didn't mention seeing the new camaro.

speak of the devil, here's a thread just posted by that Camaro loving girl and the focus group this past weekend.

oh yeah, just found this gem to go along with her Camaro review link. Talk about redneck. You should see the photo she posted of their car herd
It's got a new Silverado, a BUICK ROADMASTER!!, a few FBods all over the lawn (and neighbors lawn, in front of their sh1tty house on a cul-de sac in New Orleans. I bit my tongue not posting "Maybe you should spend a little more on a better house and neighborhood, that will actually appreciate over time, rather than a bunch of GM rattle traps."http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=243303 EDIT: you're in luck, I found it ![]()

1 car missing form her lineup there is a '74 Corvette that was her dad's and he gave to her......another worthless car. Of all Corvette's to have, a mid-70's to mid 80's IS NOT the one
