The End of a Beauty

Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I have been here but I finally dragged myself back, unfortunately with Bad News.

Last year just shy of this past month I was in an accident. Entirely not my fault, even. I was going through a green light at about 45 mph and some arse 16 year old decided to go on a red light even though he was already stopped. Needless to say, we smacked into each other and my car is totaled. No serious injuries just bumps an bruises for me (first thought: I'm okay, second though: Oh man my car), but I was certainly disheartened about it for a long time. I've finally gotten to the point where I can post this (as well as a part out thread in the sales section) as both a little tribute and a farewell.

The worst part: Like many we cannot afford full coverage insurance, especially not on an old car, and being in Michigan we are screwed by the No-Fault laws and have to foot the replacement of a vehicle ourselves. I still need to get the $500 from their insurance, just need to call them. It's really a bummer.

Also, some pics before (linked to make it easier since they are pretty big):
First some original pics, small because I could only find them on CarDomain, heh

Now some before the accident, all washed pretty and with the cleared lights

And finally, her current state of affairs

Damn, that sucks man. No fault insurance is definitely a b*tch. I know all about it in MI, and FL is a partial "no fault" state too.

Thanks guys, it was really hard seeing her like that. The accident hit me pretty hard mentally since it was a stupid driver that caused it, and I never got over the fact that had I left work on time I would have not been hit. I wanted the extra half our of OT, heh

Lawmakers that care about the insurance companies over the people? Really, that tends to be it. The insurance companies push it as making it more competitive or something and also because the laws state you have to have insurance coverage in order to get your vehicle plated every year. But what they don't say is that all that really does is push up rates, and people will get insurance for a month, plate their car, then cancel it haha (I had to due that for a few years because of not being able to afford even PLPD coverage). So, yeah. I don't think many states do it still, but the laws being there mean that I cannot sue the other driver or their insurance company (hence 'No-Fault') :/

Yeah, I know. I cringe every time I go to the garage

It's really hard seeing her like that, but I'm going to (almost) jump at the chance to get another one. God (and finances) willing, I'll get another GAGT. Thought probably a 2003+ haha.

My wife got hit by a plow truck in MI and all I have to say is F them and their stupid 'no fault' policies. At least the owner of the company of the guy who hit her was nice enough and covered the repairs to her car at the time.

I feel for you...
