Haven't seen anything yet and ours falls into those VIN's. I wonder if the local chevy dealer will do it, the local Pontiac dealer couldn't fix the brakes on our last car after we had it there 3 times I ended up fixing it myself. (Of course we'd already spent $1400 for parts we didn't need)

For those of you waiting to get your notice (if the dealer won't fix w/o it)...I figured out how to get mine working. I received my notice, and took the dealer a month before they'd fix it, because I had to "set an appointment" (they only took "paying" customers for walkin work) Tragic....Anyway, when mine failed to work, I figured out that you can jiggle the [i]hazard light switch[i] above the stereo, and they'd start working again. Just wanted to add my two cents. Hopefully it's helpful.

I have the same problem with my car except the turn signal clicker sound is acting up. I actually went to the dealership and got the recall done. It didn't fix my problem!! It happens every time I use my turn signal. It's pyscho. The turn signal lights and dash lights are fine except for the ****ing sound. It's not in the regular pattern. It just goes *click, click, click, click, click, click, etc.* and stops about 3 minutes later. I went to a shop and asked how much to get it fix-the box and it would be $350. Would it just be simpler to just cut out the box and eliminate the sound completely?????

This sucks! mine just started acting up within the last week. I feel like an ass when i have to turn and my signal doesnt work. I always hated it when people turn without signaling. now im one of them.

thats weird. the ones that usually mess up still have active turn signals... just the noise goes on randomly... unless nobody mentions that.

I just did this myself, but the dealer wanted to charge $60 for the part. I told them I knew the list price was $27.83 and he said no thats my cost but ill sell it to you at that price. (whatever). So now its time to call GM and b!tch that even though my vin isnt included I had the exact problem, and they should send me a check for the cost of the part.

As far as the jiggling the switch solution...it only works for a while and they just keep getting worse. Might as well just replace it.

with ours, if you just turn the hazards on for s plit second (or longer if you want to ?) and then back off again, your signals work. But, it's an Alero, so you never know.

if your vin is affected, just go into the dealership and they will do the work. you dont need a notice and it doesnt matter if you bought the car new or used. they will check that your vin is within the range of vin numbers listed on the recall, and as long as it is they will replace it at no charge.

go to the dealer but dont pay list price...$27.83 is what I paid, they tried to charge me $60. Otherwise get it on gmpartsdirect.com for about $25 with shipping.

Angry Hazzard switch recall

Another important GM fact about this recall notice is that dealerships get a printout on your VIN, meaning that if your VIN is not listed for this particular 2000 & 2001 recalled part, you do not get the parts repaired for free. I took the hazzard switch recall notice to my local dealer and they refused to fix my 2000 GAGT eventhough I have had defective turn signals for months. I even called Pontiac and complained about the safety concern with this and they just agreed with the dealership over and over. VIN didn't come up for the recall.

I have had a dozen problems with this car I could tell you about!! LEMON!!

Welcome to the club... Right now I presently have:
1. defective hazard switch
2. broken window mount (drives window doesn't go up)
3. leaking power steering fluid from driversside
3. blown speakers
4. SES light every other week
5. surprised that about it.

Angry Defective Car Club

Yikes, You have a couple I didn't hear about. I bought mine off the show room floor, loaded with the extras. The extras are fine; its the main things thats are junk. Don't get me wrong, I loved the car and have been checking this site out since I bought it, but I dealt with problems since 11,000 miles and its gone down hill ever since. Here is my partial list:
Here is the series of events:
>
>11,000 Sunroof leak on fusebox.
>11,500 Trunk relay and fuses damaged.
>12,000 warped rotors
>21,000 blower fan board replaced
>25,000 Fog lamp indicator won't go off
>28,000 warped rotors
>30,000 Code comes up, transmission slip
>30,000 Transmission replaced
>30,000 Transmission cracked leaking
>30,000 Severe hesitation
>30,500 Code comes up to replace O2 sensor, no changes
>30,500 Air Filter replaced
>30,500 PCV valve replaced
>31,000 Horns stopped working
>31,000 Drivers Door won't unlock with key
>32,000 Turn signals work 2 out of 3 times(Hazard switch)
>32,500 Throttle position sensor replaced
>33,000 Fuel pressure checked and came up low
> Replaced fuel filter, no changes
>33,000 Battery replaced
>33,000 Fuel pump replaced, no changes
>32,000 ABS light goes on for 2 days
>33,000 Hestitation extreme at passing speeds
>34,000 Code comes up, Same O2 sensor as before, recommends replacement
>34,000 Called Pontiac
>34,000 Got into heated argument with dealership because of false
>recommendations and diagnosis
>35,000 Looking for another car!
