No its not the hazard warning switch, its probably the multi- function switch. I took my 2000 grand am to the dealer and they changed the hazard warning but the clicking continued. They said it was the multi-function switch.

Did you happen to get a quote on the multi-function switch? Where is this part located? I am very good with electronic PCB work, so I wouldn't mind opening the switch up to find the cause of this problem.

My only concern is that I am not sure how to properly get to this switch without breaking part of my dash.

If you guys can get me to this part, I can figure out a way to fix it.

*PS*
While this issue ISN'T the recall part, I think it would be wise to discuss this new multi switch as well, since it was apprently the part that drove me to the dealership for the recall. I think this part deserves some discussion.

I don't remember what i did with my letter, but i posted what it said somewhere in here. It was only a recall if you had a turn signal problem i believe and did not mean that all had to be replaced. Call GM and ask them about it. You may be due a refund.

I know this reply is a few months late, but I just saw this thread for the first time today.

I had the same problem with the turn signals not working on my 99GA. Didn't really matter since nobody in my city uses their turn signals anyway. The multi-function switch/arm is the turn signal lever on your steering column. The problem however was in the flasher itself. The flasher is in the dash directly behind the hazard lights button, above the heat/AC controls.

I didn't receive a recall for the turn signal, but did receive a notice that my flasher is warranted longer than the rest of the car now. The one recall I did get, was for the lid on the center console. Apparantly, it may open in a collision and someone could get injured by a flying cd jewelcase.

A couple pages back, someone mentioned the lower gasket leaking. I ran into the problem with my gaskets leaking. I found this out when I found coolant in my oil pan, and engine oil in my radiator. The Pontiac dealer fixed this for me under warranty. I found out through a relative who works at GM, that the 99 and 2000 model 3400 engines have a problem with gaskets leaking. This is due to the type of bolts they used on the 3400 engine in those two model years. This problem was remedied in 2001 by using different bolts.

I'm new to these forums so sorry about posting this so late. I saw the information for the hazzard switch recall and it matches perfectly to the problem I've been having. Naturally, I'd just take it in to have it fixed, but I have a 99 Grand Am SE and noticed that the recalls were only for 00/01. I even googled it and the recall did not show up for the 99. Just wondering if anyone had advice on how to still get it done for free or if it could be done by myself. Thanks ^_^

I just recieved one for the hazard/signal on my 2002 gase, not a recall per say, but if its been fixed you can get reimbursed. on the phone with pontiac now inquiring about my 93 gase for the same problem fixed 2-4 yrs ago.

steve

edit--- nothin on file for the 93. but everyone needs to call the pont. and voice your concers on other models that have this problem.

Hey Peeps

Ok heres the story.

I have recenenty been having the intermittant signals on my 2000GAGT
We've had some extreme high temperatures here lately and my problem has gotten worse.

Called GM Canada since I live in Toronto, Ontario
Also went to the dealer the other day to inquire about the problem
Dealer quoted me $200-$350 CAD to fix it.

Both have told me there is no recall for my vechicle.

How is this possible when I see so many posts for other people with the exact same problem???

HELP !!

Sometimes the turn signals on my 02 GA do not work at all. But if I turn the hazard signal on and off and then turn the turn signals on, it works.

The first post in this thread is the recall notice for this part. Your dealer is full of it. Print a copy of the first post in this thread and take it to another dealer or call Pontiac directly. Tell them your problem, the recall # and where to get it fixed.

Ok I know this recall is for 00 and 01 only. Is there anyone out there with different model year that got this fixed for free because you are experiencing the same symptom as the recall stated(signal not working at all)?

Well I replaced the hazard switch myself on my 02 GA. The part was around $24 and it was easy to replace. Both my dealer and Pontiac was being very unhelpful because all they wanted to know was my VIN, so they could look up if my car falls into the recall category.

It comes as a simple module that a harness plugs into. Just take the radio bazel off and you will see what I mean.
