When my hazard switch went out, Carmax replaced it for me & it was a recall issue but since my car was under warrenty with Carmax they fixed it for no charge. I also was wondering about that console latch mechanism:

Recalls Summary

Make: PONTIAC
Model: GRAND AM
Year: 2000
Recall Number: 00V140000
Summary:
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: THESE VEHICLES DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE OCCUPANT PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 201, "OCCUPANT PROTECTION IN INTERIOR IMPACT." THE CONSOLE COVER ON THESE VEHICLES DOES NOT STAY CLOSED WHEN A SPECIFIED VERTICAL LOAD IS APPLIED.
Consequence:
IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE CONSOLE COVER COULD OPEN AND THE COVER OR ITEMS STORED UNDER IT COULD INJURE AN OCCUPANT.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CONSOLE LATCH MECHANISM.
Notes:
OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JUNE 9, 2000. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT OLDSMOBILE AT 1-800-442-6537 OR PONTIAC AT 1-800-762-2737. ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Are they talking about the glove box? Cuz mine pops open every so often or wont shut, i have to reshut it in order to keep it closed. Hopefully thats covered on my car. For that bolt, im sure if Carmax hasnt already done that they should get that done for no charge. Thats bogus that they dont cover certain ones for no charge when its thier fault they didnt make it durable in the first place. I also had to get a coolank gasket leak fixed but it was under warrenty as well.

well seeing as i didnt own my GA back when the recall was issued and my hazard situation is just now starting to occur, do you still think itwould be honored due to the thought that it was never taken care of by the previous owner so it seems.

Woot !.. Got it fixed today Free of charge.
Called GM Canada last week , who in turn called my local dealer.
There wasn't a recall on my specific VIN per say.. but they said I fell into some kind of other policy..which made me eligable for the free repair. 117,000 KM on the car right now..FREE IS GOOD !

Hazard Switch

I had the same repair ("unconditional recall" is what they called it) and not 4 mths after, I have this random clicking sound...turn signals and lights work...this clicking sound is very annoying...any advice?
Also, ironically enough, I'm having an issue with my ignition switch...sometimes I have to punch my dash to get my car to start...yet my auto start would work no problem (battery is dead now) I'm wondering if the repair guys messed around with my ignition switch while fixing the turn signal switch...as far as I know, they weren't getting paid for the job....hummmm, woundn't put it past them!!

They get paid for any job they do. Doesnt matter if its under warranty or not. GM covers the bill.

I had this fixed under warranty about one year ago; however, it has started happening again...

Will GM still cover it under warranty?

Is there a way I can fix it myself?

Thanks,
David

This site Rocks! I did the multi-function switch ( 3-way switch ) fix over the weekend and now it’s fine. The clicking noise was driving me nuts! I thought I had another hazard switch problem, I tried me old hazard switch and had the same clicking noise from the hazard switch. When I touched the turn signal lever it would start clicking without turning on the turn signal. Everything works fine, just the intermittent relay clicking noise. I searched this site and found the answer in a few minuets. Just make sure to push the horn pin in as you put the assembly on the steering column. Thanks for the info and a great site!

Turn Signals

Hello all-
I am brand new to the site and this is my first post. Sadly, it couldnt be for something nice like upgrades or pics but for repairs. I bought a very nice used 2001 GT about three weeks ago. On the second day, the turn signals became intermittent!! My question is this. Since I am not the original owner of the car, do I still qualify for this recall?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave.

they recall the VEHICLE. doesn't matter who owns it or how old. if you're not sure call the GM dealership. they'll want the VIN number to see if that car is part of the recall, so have it ready.

This might help, this is the NHTSA action notice for the 99-00 model years.

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...h&summary=true

Note that there is no recall number like the 00-01 cars.

Thanks Torq.
I did as you suggested. Unfortunately for me, the dealer said my car already had the problem fixed. I told him it is still going on and that the replacement was probably also faulty. Unless I wanted to buy new parts, they said there was nothing they could do and not to let the door hit me on the way out. [just kidding]
Is there any way to fix this myself or do I have to bite the bullet?

read the "how too" section. they revised the multifunction switch so that even if the random click exists, the turn signals will still function. the older original switches would develop that clicking, the turn signals would cease to function causing a road hazard.

Same problem with 02 GAGT

Hey man,

Any idea if there is a recall for the 2002 model?

My delaership insists there are no recalls on the 2002 but mine deinitely had this problem.

I say "had" because I took the hazard switch apart and fixed the cold solder joints myself but I have friends and others who still have the problem and I don't feel like taking apart a half dozen dashes.

Funny that only 6 months ago GM was insisting that the part was out of warranty and I would have to pay for the repair myself, this is the first I''ve heard of them admitting that the solder joints are the problem hmmm?

Cheers

Doc
