Head unit preferences

I'm looking for the best head unit for $200 or less. I want single din and front or rear USB, or iPod capability. I don't care about Bluetooth either.

What all have you guys used or prefer that's relatively new and available?

Eventually I will be upgrading the rest like the door speakers and the 6x9s then further down the road a sub box, amps etc.

Any input would be appreciated.

Every aftermarket unit I've had has been Pioneer, and I've never had a reason to change. Of course, I haven't installed an aftermarket deck in a car in the last 4 years, so things might be different now.

The last two H/U's I had were a Marantz, and a Pioneer, but that was a long time ago (pre CD's). I see a lot of good reviews for Pioneer still, and also Kenwood/JVC, and will most likely go with one of those next year when I upgrade.

personally i like pioneer as well. i used to like kenwood, but then there design got really dumb, and was not easy to use. a lot of people like alpine, but i dont like there button layout. i guess it comes down to what you like.

here are 3 pioneer HUs that have what you want all for under $200

The last Pioneer I had could switch to red lighting, looked pretty good with the factory dash.

I've been thinking about running pioneer, honestly, but have seen good keyword units. In the end they both do the same thing, but is there much of an audio difference in clarity? One would think not in our current technological state.

I've looked at online stores for deals on stuff, and have found some good deals.

Time to sift through online reviews...

I bought a Denon back in 1997, that is STILL in the car (5th car) when it just got sold, so I'd say that's pretty good, albeit a bit outdated now

Everything else has been Pioneer. Always had pretty good luck with them.

Anybody got any nice headunits for the 1.5DIN with red backlighting? Doesn't necessarily have to be a 1.5DIN even though I don't think those are made anymore aftermarket. 1DIN is fine

Alpine is very good. Mine just turned 8 years olds. Never been a fun of Pioneer's cheap filling plastic, same goes with sony. But the $79 best buy special sony in my girls car is working fine.

I was an alpine fan untill they changed there looks then i think every head unit they made just looked cheesy IMO. The one you speak of from 8 years ago is still the style i liked. at the end of that style they tried that glidetough feature, i pre-orderd one and i never had to send a cd player in so many times for a warranty. After months and months of returns i just said **** and went with pioneer. never a problem with them. sad they got rid of the premier line though just a little bit better quality. Still a big fan of alpine speakers though. I think they did a real good job of making a quality speaker withought the high price tag.

sonicelectronix.com sell digital media recievers which are headunit that do not have cd drives but SD card slots usb and high Ipod connectivity. The great thing about these is that they are cheaper in price and alot of them have CEA compliant amps in them.

P.S. less moving parts means higher durability and less rate of failure
