*realizes transmission costs more than entire car + mods to replace*

*proceeds to complain what a POS the car's transmission is and hates the vehicle and wants to sell it*

Might as well chalk another one up to.....great, have fun living with this decision......and close the thread. There is nothing we can say that he won't refute.

An eclipse...of any year...is a grade A pile of sh1t. There are better cars to waste money on than this DSM junk box. And as for the GSX model, have fun with another problem launching it like you want to, the tranny/driveline breaking. Calling it now, car included, you'll easily drop $7000-8,000+ into this car when all is said and done.
How much did you pay for your GTO? It's an 06, so it's putting out 400hp out of a v8? I know you paid for it. I haven't looked at many of the new GTO's, but I remember reading in a comparison with an import that it was too heavy...

I didn't start this thread for flaming, I started it for opinions. But if you insist on debating money wise, v6 grand am headers are going to be $600, and you can drop $400 on a cheap catback and be on your way. And then if you want boost, you need a new exhaust (at least new mani/headers).

I hate talking **** about the grand am, because I honestly like the car, but it's not a performance car. It can be, with a LOT of money, but seriously... 170hp out of a v6? That's the weakest v6 I've ever heard of. Flame me all you want, but don't get mad because you need to bring up faster cars to beat a 90's turbo 4.

And a 2G DSM is?!!?

Seriously, all you had to say in this thread was that you want to be a "tuner" and we would have gotten your point. Your choices in cars based on your awareness and what you're subconsciously telling us:

1. Eclipse GS
2. Integra LS
3. Civic DX

Go build your car, Sheep.

first, I have no idea where the hell you are trying to go with htis, because I bought the car brand new as opposed to 20 years old. Second, "comparison with an import"?

Pssssst, let me tell you a secret no one else here can see..... the GTO is an import.

It might be "heavy" but it still puts down sub-13 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

Talking about heavy...so are:
Mustangs
Camaros
G8s
Challengers

Check out this 4000 lbs heavy full size car:

A straight line car that can handle up to 1.0Gs

Yeah, those Corvettes can go around corners fast.

You don't realize it until you go following/chasing them on a cruise in the twisties

none of us on this site need convincing that the g8's and other aussie/gm love childs are fast fun. he should do one of these instead, if you can find one.

do you have a clue what youre talking about? have you driven one or are you basing your response on what youve heard?

i might be biased since my "straight line" car had a built suspension, but they handle really well. not sure if you can use a 350z as a yard stick, but at high speed i could take turns that they couldnt. I could also make right turns at 65, as long as i stayed out of the throttle. not sure many people could handle much more than that.

With mods, an eclipse is a v8 killer. I've done more thinking, and I think I'm going to suck it up and get a GSX for the launching potential. Apparently GST's have a major issue with traction off the line.

I'll be able to mod the 'clipse much quicker since it's cheaper and Ive talked to a couple DSM owners locally. With the normal bolt ons and some quick turbo/engine mods, v8's won't be that hard.
v8 killer? i love when that term is used. the 170 hp grand am is a v8 killer. go back to the 1920s and they had v8s with 120hp.

98 camaro ($6k)comes stock with 350hp (ok, marketing called it 310). it runs 13.7 as is. add an LS6 intake ($100), drag radial tires ($150 w/rims), lt headers ($350), and catback exhaust ($300), youll have a high 12s car that cost a grand total $6900 that gets 28 mpg and can be driven daily without incident.

i want to see an import that can do high 12s with 28 mpg and be driven as a reliable daily driver and still cost less than $7k.

I dreamed about Eagle Talon TSi back when I got my driver's licence.
(& my friend in HS got one too)
210 hp & AWD

That was 20 years ago.

i own one . and yes the handling is unbeleivable. it has better handling than miatas, s2000, eclipse, you name it. the corvette is actually one of the best handling cars in the world. better than any porsche, viper, and at par with lambos and ferraris. if you dont beleive me you need to start watching some more road racing competitions.

Besides, a turbo kit for the grand am is... $4500? I can get a whole car for cheaper than that :/
you can pretty much buy my car and have 2 GA's 1 being boosted, just needs a bit of work, nothing a mechanic cant handle. car runs good... pay for the gas ill car trailer it there or i could ship it for a lot more

are you kidding me? must i fix my car for one run with the kid that has one locally and video tape it? he has a G16 Turbo with bunch of fuel mods, some internal work and what not, i stomped its **** in the ground by 6 cars on 12 psi spinning from a roll. enough said. The cars are junk, you will need more money than a grand am to make it reliable with power adders. my friend bought a talon tsi, 2nd week he had it, it blew up, good thing the dealer warrantied it. Any car can be a v8 killer, hell a smart car could eat v8s all day with modification.
