Eclipse GST

I love the grand am... but I think I'm going to be buying an eclipse gs-t soon. Grand Am's nice and reliable, but I can't afford to shell out thousands of dollars for this car.

The original idea was to fabricate a totally new exhaust on the grand am and do some top-end engine work. Wanted a ported UIM and bigger TB. But with new headers coming out to be $600, and the rest of the exhaust possibly adding up to $1000, maybe $500 for the intake parts... bleeeeh.

Eclipse will take some work, but soo sexy & cheaply boosted Anybody have a 2g eclipse?

I have a few friends who really tune these cars.

Bottom line, they are piles of crap. My friend takes very good care of his car, it breaks down every week, I bet more than half of his paycheck goes to it. Sure its fast, but he pays. His tranny went out in Detroit, so he has no 4th gear this week, last week his clutch master cylinder went to poop, before that his clutch literally exploded.

My other friend just bought one, there is so much wrong with it, he did get it for 800 bucks though.

Bottom line, if you want to put a lot of money down, go for it. Past that, I'd say no.

You have to weigh the pros and cons...

+ Performance parts are widely available and cheap
+ AWD ftw
+ Turbocharged

- Its an eclipse :S
- Unreliable
- Insurance cost for sports car...

IMO, find another car that fits your needs or keep it and mod.

i hate to say this...but you'd be better off with an SRT4 in some ways. eclipse's can be quick cars, but their reliability is extremely poor

They are fun but unreliable as hell. If you need consistency keep your ga ( although not much better) or look into a honda for epic reliability.

friend of mine has a 1985 Supra with a 7M-GTE from a 1989 Supra. Very fast, fun to drive and decently reliable. Only problem he has is with rust. Everything else runs smooth. 1/4 mile time best is 13.7

Buy a supra.

Because a 1985 Supra is cooler than a 2g Eclipse which is cooler than a 2004 Grand Am.

No.

buy a c5 corvette and it will be a better deal than any ricer. best bang for the buck sports car you can get by a long shot. reliability is unmatched. nobody even knows how long they will last because the cars simply arent old enough yet to drive that far. plenty of people with 300/400k+ miles and still running strong on all original parts. mine has 122k miles and it drives like its brand new. it only has a few mods.
