Don't know about you guys but I'm first call at my dealers for the new GTO. I'm checking with my salesman and the sales manager every two weeks to let them know I'm still alive and they'll contact me when GM is ready to accept the orders for exterior paint color, interior color, and transmission.
I don't care if no one like the new GTO... I do and I'll have mine in December. Torid Red, Red Leather and matching gauges. I'll go for the automatic due to the LA traffic. Also Lojack WILL be installed. ![]() |

I was at the Dealer for service today and I picked up the new brochure for the GTO. I think this will be my next car. I am looking to purchase in Fall '04 or early '05. It is time for RWD with IRS, V8 and a 6-speed manual. 350 hp with potential for much more, is very appealing.

I think I like the GTO in Barbados Blue Metallic, with the matching gauge cluster(which is very cool). The car also comes 'Fully Loaded'.

I think I'd be happier with a used WS6 Trans Am. Much less initial investment, insurance will be lower, and performance... need I say anything? Go ahead and but the imported F-body for more $$... I'll stick with the real deal made in the USA and save $$.

Actually the F-Body was made in Canada, so technically to you, it is also imported.

For the record, I like imports. To take a Toyota Camry and badge it Barracuda... that would make most car enthusiasts vomit. Not for me. My neighbor has a real GTO. Dark blue... NICE.. ![]() To me, what they are doing is what Ford almost did with Mustang in the early 90's. They almost discontinued the RWD platform and were going to power up the Probe and call it Mustang. Imagine a freakn' Mazda Mustang. THAT'S where I am comming from. Not the fact that it's an import, it's the fact that a GTO was NEVER an import. |

I dunno, if it has power and is RWD, that's all that maters, and I don't think another country is more similar to us than Australia (at least the people) anyway. I would say Canadians but they are liberal out the ass so that's a "no."
(BTW, I have seen the Canadian Hustler that I got for my friend's 18th b-day and I felt dirty compared to looking at the American one ).Looking at Australia kinda reminds me of America of old, rough and tough and RWD cars galore (plenty of v8 muscle too) and the utes remind me of old el caminos. But anyway, it doesn't bother me that they make it, especially since they have such nice designs and power and performance. I think GM has done MUCH MUCH worse with improperly badging cars that used to be cool, like how the Nova name was run into the ground beyond recognition (yeah, wasn't that boxy little POS as the last gen Nova made in the US?). To me, as long as they don't disgrace the name with an inferior car to the original GTO (which the new one isn't, except in pricetag, but everything is nowadays), then where it is made doesn't mater so much, especially since it's Australia were talking about and not from a country where the people have completely different values, are much smaller, and speak a completely different language (like Japan and Korea). Oh well. I hear they are retunning the exhuast to make it sound like the original GTO, so at least when the cars arrive GM is tweaking them. |

my thoughts on the GTO....
sorry if this is late, but i just saw it. i think it's not a bad idea, at least holden is a GM company. i think the reason for the "downtuned" performance is that all the tests have been done on the cars that are converted from the moneros. as i believe Jayce Stokes said at GAP, they are still fine tuning and re-arranging stuff, so actual perforamance may very well be different. i'm not wild about it being called a GTO either, GTO stands for Grand Tourismo Omologato, which translates roughly into Grand Tour Homegrown, and a car from another country is not homegrown. other then that, i don't think it's bad. the thing that really gets me though, is that a lot of the GTO guys and the old muscle guys tend to look down on our cars. i remember an article on the GTO that was rather recent where they said they were glad its RWD and not "some turbocharged grand am with GTO badges." that really ****ed me off we are some of the last remaints of Pontiac performance (modern though it may be) and we should get some more respect then that. but lets face it, the GTO is coming whether we like it or not, and i think that it is mostly for the better. ~steve

Man, whos knocking Lutz around here?
This is the guy that wants to make a light two seater under 20 grand and wants and has spear headed a performance divison that will show its head in 2004 with the Caddy V-series, followed by several SS cars and a few choice others for each nameplate like Saturn Redline series of cars. 200+hp Ion is only the beginning for the "smaller car" line. GM is already toying with 220hp Ecotech's and how they would perform compared to the comp. by making a one-off Cav. with all the trimmings. Its only been a couple years since the Ecotech was introduced its already the fastest I-4 on the block with a capablity to produce unheard of hp that will make VTEC owners **** their pants. Only diff. between the two is that Honda and aftermarket companies have had years apon years to make tons of VTECs to the point that they are "insane" cheap, I can pick up a 200hp 2.2L V crate , with tranny for 2grand. Give GM 1-2 years and that Ecotech will have mods out the yen yang to perchase. I already know people that have street legal 2002 Cavs. pushing 450hp and sport compact mag. will be running a article soon on how to build a 550hp Eco for the street. Thus the answer to the cheap and fast problem. My 2 cents is wait a bit and see what happens, don't get all ****y because your grand vision of gm isn't coming true yet. It takes time for things to happen, especialy when you have a few older pinheads in the higher up running things in certain areas that hamper things. Anyhoo, I like the GTO, price isn't bad for a good 4-seater, something the Vette can't claim. Some of us have families you know. And if it costs 40grand for a 400hp version so be it. Still way cheaper than a M5 or if you dare to go across the pond, the Skyline GT-R which is about the same size it really has a price advantage. Skylines GT-R's go for over 75K up there. No thank you, I'll pass on that. Last edited by WOLF; 08-21-2003 at 04:01 PM. |
