sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but i am intersted in disableing my ALC in my 02 GAGT. i have already disabled the DRLS. on page 19 it says to put a 10 ohm resistor in place of the ambiant light sensor. the other day i went to my local radio shack and looked at some resistors, but they didn't have any 10 ohm ones, so i just bought a 100 ohm one. will this make any difference?

Thanks.

Disabled DRL's on an 04 SE2 the other day. Works fine and no codes. Simply pulled the fuse from under the hood and wah-lah...no more DRL. And now I drive with parking and fogs when its dusk, its pretty sexy.

at the BCM, locate Connector C2 (center)

On the "B" side row of pins, locate the dark blue wire (b4)

Cut this wire, leaving as much as possible still attached to the BCM.

Now simply add on a piece of wire to the side that is still connected to the body control module. attach this wire to a good ground, like a screw in the metal part of the dash behind the glove box or I used the interior light mounting bracket screw right there next to the BCM.

The BCM now sees this to mean that the regular headlights are on, and so it energizes the relay that turns off the DRL’s.

ALC bypass
at connector C2 find A3 the yellow/black wire, and B2 light green/black wire.. be careful because there are two light green/black wires on that connector.. the one you want is closest to the yellow/black wire.

cut these wires again leaving as much wire as possible attached to the BCM.. simply tie the two wires together and tape them up real good. (this is the same thing as removing ambient light sensor and adding a jumper wire)

The BCM will now think that it is daylight all the time and it will not energize the relay to turn on the headlights.

1.) I should not have to say this but first disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. (cheap insurance).

2.) Remove the middle connector as stated before in the previous posts. Now locate the brown wire (pin 8 on the bottom). This is the pin that tells the BCM that the lights switch in not in the auto setting. Cut this wire, leaving enough room to extend it to the relay.

3.)The relay: Get a standard 4 or 5 pin 12V relay. Here is how the pins need to be wired. Pin 30-->go to the brown wire that you cut (on the BCM side), Pin 87-->12V (constant), Pin 86--> ground, Pin 85-->12V (switched when key is on), Pin 87a-->no connect.
NOTE: the 12V constant to Pin 87 could also be switched I do not think that it matters.

4.)Once the relay is connected I used some double sided tape and stuck it next to the fuse box out of the way. Now you need to cut the dark blue wire and ground it just like the 99-00.

5.)reconnect your BCM and your battery and test the system. Every thing worked fine for me no SVS and no DRLs.

**Apparently this method works as well**
Ground the dark blue wire(b4) and run a jumper wire from the brown wire (pin 8 on the bottom) to the sunroof fuse on the Passenger side fuse panel.

ALC bypass
1.) Remove the ambient light sensor under the dash defrost grill.

2.) Put a 10ohm resistor in place of ambient light sensor.

03-04 model Grand Am

No drl
Pull DRL #22 relay (located in the under hood fuse panel)

ALC bypass
1.) Remove the ambient light sensor under the dash defrost grill.

2.) Put a 10ohm resistor in place of ambient light sensor.

I haven't had anyone who has had a good wiring diagram and a donor car so I have never been able to write up anything.

This was my very first mod too; I did it last year when I bought my GT1. My ALC sensor was screwey.... it would have my headlights come on just by me driving into some shade, . It would falsely think darkness was coming.... I got so sick and tired of that, that's when I did the mod. Now I have full control of my running lights; fogs; and headlights...
My neighbor helped me with mine, and he installed a switch so I can easily flip the switch to turn on the DRL's and ALC if I ever need to. He put the switch way inside my glovebox, and it is marked "drl's on", and "drl's off". I remember he used a 6 post slide switch. Something about the ground going to one post when the switch is "on"; then the ground being removed with the switch "off".
Whatever he did, it works great... with no SVS or SES lights at all.... I am not very good with that stuff, but luckily he is a GM mechanic so I trusted his wisdom. Man, I wish he didn't move to another town, dammit.... Nice to have a buddy who knows Pontiac's so well.... Oh well..

I've been curious. I know early on back in the days when there was a DRL bypass kit for purchase and when this thread was first posted, there were lots of people asking if this mod works with Aleros and/or Malibus too. Without skimming thru 22 pages of thread does anyone know or has anyone tried this on their Alero or Malibu. I know according to the Haynes books they say the wiring diagrams are all the same.

Stupid question but how do those damned relays pop out? I tried pulling it out by hand but the f***ing thing wouldn't budge. My other stupid question is since the DRLs are controlled by a computer is it possible to disable them by software route rather than hardware route?

use plyers, to pull the relay out. they are a bitch to pull with the hands.

p.s. anyone have any tips yet on the ALC sensor that i was asking bout earlier?

Lone_Wolf- It has been mentioned that there is a way to program the DRLs and stuff to not work. However, from what I understood only a few dealerships or shops would have the equipment and due to legality issues no shop would do it. Being that in DRLs are considered a safety feature and in the case of our Canadian friends are required by law, they are not supposed to be tampered with or disabled with exceptions of law enforcement and what not.

Anyways, the relays are a mother to pull out.. plyers and some finess. and maybe a few choice words... be careful not to break the relay or the pins though.. can't remember how much they are, but I know to replace one ain't cheap.

Killians- you may need to unplug the connector from the BCM might give you a little more slack in the wire. If you can't take care of business up at the ALC sensor, you can always work down at the BCM and put the resistor in there. Not the cleanest way of doing things but end result will be the same.

I just pulled out the # 22 relay tonight, seems to have worked. I had to pry the relay up with a flat head screwdriver to get plyers on the thing, there are 2 other relays so close to it you cant get a grip on it when its pushed all the way in....
