A concept photo comes out of an unconfirmed car and all of the sudden it's "aw **** man, GM sucks I'm never going back cuz they're gonna f*** up my Grand Am," and then the others stare hopefully at horrible photochops and call them "improvements." First of all, this is just a prototype, which can easily be seen by the shoddily put together rear end, meaning that the final version (which is quite a ways off) will most likely be very different. Second of all, this isn't even confirmed as the next Grand Am, it could be anything from a Sunfire to a Cavy to a Saturn, which is easily plausible.
Really, unless you are in the market for specifically a next model generation Grand Am who cares? All kinds of other cars out there to choose from, lots of them ugly, lots of them nice, lots of them fast.

They ****ed up the GA back in 1993 when the HO Quad 4 droped from 180HP to 175 HP, ever since then.... it may have looked nice, but, had you of had the opportunity to drive say a 1991 Grand Am with the 180HP Quad 4 and a 5-speed brand new (or the 190HP Cutalass Calais W41)... tire shredding bliss... Yeah the new 3400 ALMOST does the same thing... (slushbox only) It dissapoints me that it took a V6 to not quite do what a VERY TORQUEY 4cly did 11 years ago. Not to mention the BASE quad 4 was 160HP back then. Now a 2.2 with 140HP is the top 4cyl. That's REALLY dissapointintg.

Just sit back and wait and what happens happens, it's not fair to judge something before you know anything about it at all. Sure you might say "well if we express our disgust they'll change it." Well guess what, at the speed GM operates at, you're too late in the game if you think any of your input will have the slightest impact on their design. Any changes hereon out are at the will of their designers and engineers and execs.
True. Personally I am over getting worked up about GM cars anymore.

Well, actually the base base engine was 105 hp 2.5L, but the upgrade engine was the 2.4L 160 hp engine and the HO was of course 180 hp. Yeah the quad 4 was pretty awesome, IMO, I dunno why they ditched it. Maybe they'll tune the Ecotec soon (well they kinda are with the turbo (or supercharged?) ION). Of course remember how long it took them to release the HO after the original version of the Quad 4.

Lightbulb Quad vs. Ecotec

Nice tid bit on the Quad.

Also, the motor has a bad reputation for being loud and rather thrasy for a I-4 compaired to the comp. at the time. Not many people like loud thrasy eco. cars or atleast they didnīt then

Forgot to add earlier:

Ecotec has more capabilites as far as modding, some tuner mag. is going to show how to make a 550hp streetable Ecotec soon with the help from GM and Dragracer that just finished working on a 1200+hp 2.2L Eco.

Iīve snooped around and Iīve seen plenty of upgrades that has some Cav. owners making over 325hp

Pontiac took the Grand Am from 1998-1999 and made a HUGE change to it. The car went from a more conservative look to an "in your face" look. I would be curious to see what the spy photo's of the current grand am looked like, and what people said about it. I am sure that people thought it was ugly and not attractive. Now, since we had an awesome body style design since 1999, we want something better than what we have now. I will wait and see what the new G6 is going to look like. Not sure what my next car will be- maybe the top of the line G6, or one of the "final 500" current grand am gt's. Who knows. With GM, you never know what you are going to get, until you see one on a dealer's lot.

Well, once again, Pontiac took a very good lookin' car and turned it into something that an old lady will be driving. First, they ruined the Grand Prix, which I truly loved, especially the GTP model, and now the Grand AM. Well, I think I want to get the SC/T model this year before they ruin the car with a look that resembles the Dodge Neon. Way to go Pontiac!

Good bye coupes, Hello sedans. UGH :-(

We all know why they are cutting out the coupes- they want to sell more GTO's. If you want a coupe bad enough, you will buy a GTO- thats prolly what pontiac is thinking.

Actually, I think it's just because they don't sell enough coupes to keep making them.

Seems like everywhere I go I only see sedan GAs. The only time I saw more coupes than sedans was at the GAOC meet a couple of weeks ago.

Car enthusiasts usually prefer coupes to sedans but face it, we're a minority of car owners, especially on a market like the GA, GM's best seller. That's also why they make a few models geared towards the car enthusiast (formerly the F-body, now the GTO).

I prefer seeing GM making a few models right than end up with a sports car mockup. I love my GAGT but it's only got the looks of a sports car (barely), it's missing a lot to really be one...

with the talks some people have had with jace stokes there will be some things in the works to back up the look. however i don't know why it took all the way to the end of the car for them to do some engine work for us.

Before, the trend was to make a nice looking car with a crappy engine, so people could modify the engine or swap engines or whatever to make it faster. Now they are putting the power into the cars, but it is much more difficult to completely swap out the shell of the car and swap on a decent looking shell, isn't it?

I forgot about the 2.5, but I don't think it was ever in the Cutalss Calais wehen the Quad 4 was around, I think it was just in the Grand Am as a base engine, I could be wrong, don't remeber.

I do remener that the Quad 4 was 2.3 with minumum of 160HP. The suckass 2.4 with max of 155HP is what replaced it.

Just like most people don't like thrashy 4's, most people will not modify their car. No excuses for downtuning. No excuse for 190HP to 140HP with nearly the same displacment. it was late 80's when the Quad 4 was put in production cars. It's 2003. What... did they get dummber over the years? BS. Enough with the lame excuses. We want power.

What happened was that GM needed to compete with the economy of Japanese cars so I guess they decided to go with the Ecotec. I agree ttho, kinda sad that they went backwards. But time will tell as to the capabilities GM is willing to exploit in the Ecotec.
