Well really that depends. IF you build a good enclousure the best way is facing foward, but the easiest way is backwords.. I found this out the hard way. I had my subs in what I though was a perfect install with the trunk sealed off from the front cabin, but I Was wrong, and the phasing was so bad! I built a new enclusre the easy way (backwords) and it sounded a lot better with the trunk open or closed. I was happy.

When the phasing was off the speakers "sounded" llike they were distorting at higher volumes. I noticed it was not distortion when I opened my trunk and it got 3 times louder, so I tsuffed my trunk full of sleeping bags and it sounded amazing. Well I do not want a trunk full of fill, so I just turned them around and BAM great sound.

Most real pro comps are all facing foward, and with the right box you can obtain a higher spl and sq this way, but if you are not an all out.. jsut got backwords up upwords.

The first is a shot of my amps. The second one shows my custom carpet cover and the sub box. It really isn't anything cool. It's just a bandpass box. But the last time it was tested it hit a 142, so I can't complain I plan on getting a ported box. that will help clean it all up and give me a crisper bass along with more room for the trunk.

That's about as close to my sub as it gets. I have a JL 10WO in a very wide truck-wedge style box. It has the right volume without taking up hardly any trunk space. If you want a pic, send me a digi cam
