The thing is, I don't have any hatred for the GA. But, it's warranty is up, and within weeks of that happening, the damn ignition cylinder needed to be replaced. I mean, that should NEVER go on a car, let alone one with 40K miles on it. Besides, I get bored with cars.

That's awesome, Amber. Hopefully they'll be able to find one for me in Strato....rare color!

If you buy a Mazda 3 Sport (called in Canada) / Mazda 3 5-door:

The early versions of the 2.3L 4-cyclinder engine used a cartridge type oil filter & 2- O-rings every time you did an oil change.

The cartridge oil filter & O-rings were/are expensive costing to the owners (& originally hard to find stock of - when it first came out) when getting an oil change.

Mazda 3's with the 2.3L 4-cyclinder engine made after last year summer; changed the oil filter requirements by adding an adaptor at the factory to accept spin-on type oil filters.

So if you are going to get a Mazda 3 with the 2.3L engine:
Get one made after last year summer
or
do this modification to save money & have more chooses of after-market oil filters.
How-to Convert the 6i (& Mazda 3's with the 2.3L engine) Cartridge Oil Filter to a Spin-on Type

A guy at work leased a '04 Mazda 3 Sport end of last summer & just found out what an oil change costs at a Mazda dealer $$$.
$70Cdn [about $59US] (15% taxes included) for 'semi-synthetic' 5W20 oil & that cartridge type oil filter & O-rings.

For that price:
I can use real synthetic motor oil (like: German Castrol Syntec 0W30 or Mobil 1 0W40) & a NAPA Gold oil filter;
& still take it to my local GM dealers (& pay the labour price only) to do it;
& pay about the same price as him.

Well, I got the Mazda3 on Saturday! AWESOME car, terrific price (even loaded) and it was the most painless car-buying experience of my life! I'll be looking into some aftermarket shortly...exhaust and springs initially. It will be a FANTASTIC car for autocrossing, and it's just damn skippy overall.

Are you a member at mazda3forums.com? I think I saw someone over there with the same name..... Anyway, I test-drove a couple 3 S sedans the weekend before this past one. Needless to say, I'm hooked. How a car manufacturer can offer these features at this price is insane. I never knew what the big to-do over newer Japanese cars was, but now I get it.

Yes I am a member there! It's an impossible car to beat (in my opinion) for the price. It has about 10 less horses in it's 4cylinder than my GA's 6. Plus, you get a 4-year warranty, which is really awesome. To me, a longer warranty proves that the manufacturer stands behind their product. I certainly loved the GA and told the dealer to make sure it went to a good home, but it's impossible not to be blown away by this 3.

And thanks, Brandon! It was a pretty good Saturday for me!

Congrats on your new 3!!!!

I didn't read the whole thread. But the mazda 6 is also very reasonably priced and not so little, like the 3 is. BUt too each their own, and everyone likes different cars and has different needs/wants. My g/f got her six cylinder mazda 6 for around 19,600 (with some awsome rebates) about 3 months ago. It has most every option too accept for leather and the sport grill. That made me very sad as I paid that much for my 2000 GAGT brand new back in the day. But I love my GAGT so its alright. This car looks so awsome though and is pretty darn fast at 220hp. I hope I can get her modding soon! It needs some more torque.

I was less cramped in a 3 sedan than I am in my parents Grand Am GT. Especially on the passenger side.
