May I introduce you to the all new 2005 Ford Mustang GT!!!!!!!

If you lay off the options and wait for the initial hoopla to wear off.......It is a 25,000 car with 300 horsepower. Just wish they would have painted the mirrors. Oh well, at least they got the important thing right (horsepower, styling, and PRICE).

fo44rd: That's exactly what I was getting at.. The F-body was wonderful competition to the Mustang, and now that GM scrapped it and isn't making the GTO similarly priced, ford's the only car in range. Way to go GM shooting yourself in the foot and all!

When I said the thing about GTO competing with the Vette, it was straight from the article quotation, GM feels that if they give it a high price tag then people wikk think it's great... Well in australia the holden monaro is roughly 20 grand US$... So what d'ya think of that, SAME car! I guess we're paying for every single car to be RHD-> LHD converted?? I don't think so cause holden does export to the middle east and they're LHD cars. There's an entire thread about this from last year when they were first rolling out the Goats.

I am critical of GM. My mom works for GM. The only thing we every owned was GM. I was their biggest fan in the mustang F-body wars. I always rooted for the General. Then I got my job in auto parts wholesale. It is so sad that the AC-DELCO wholesalers I work(ed) for used and still uses Fords to deliver the product. They had a few GMC Sonomas left, but the company is basically all ford now. I have to tell you after driving those Ranger against the Sonoma/s10 counterparts.....NO WAY IN HELL WOULD I EVER BUY A GM TRUCK OVER A FORD TRUCK....NO WAY!!!!! That got for the new inline 5 duds they have now. What kind of moron company puts an inline 5 in a pickup???????? I actually wanted a colorado before it came out, because I thought it was getting the 270 horse inline 6 from the trailblazer. Not, like clockwork GM found a way to screw it up, oh and in the process lose the oil pressure and volt gauges in the transformation from s-10 to colorado. Classy.

I am sick of being loyal to a company that does nothing but kick dirt in my face. First the G-bodies (monte carlo...real ones...., cutlass supreme, el camino, grand prix, etc.) then the B-bodies. I was always a big fan of those 9c1 caprices and impalas smoking the vics. Bye, we can make more money selling overpriced 4wd station wagons called tahoes. That one taught me GM just doesn't get it. To this day I lament the what might have been, A 1997 9c1 or impala ss with a 340 horse LS1! Then the f-bodies got the ax. Well, I knew that was coming. Even all the car mags said outside of the engine GM quit investing in these cars a long time ago. You would think GM would have had a little class and stuffed the 405 horse LS6 in the farewell editions. Ford kept money pouring money in the Mustang all the way till the end. There was no competition at the end, but Ford still put a 390 horse engine in the last Cobras, you know to send them out on top. Nope, not the general, always in love with the bottom line. Little do they know how badly it hurts them in the long run.

Everytime they kill something good they come out with a most expensive or vastly inferior product to take its place. The g-bodies were replaced with that much publicized GM-10 platform that was 10 years behind the japanese the day it came out. And a modified version of that platform it used to this day. GM wonders why it cannot compete. THEY JUST DON'T GET IT!

I dont know... I am pretty happy with my 23k 04 GTO..... I dont fret a bit... If all the boats sink with the 2005's on them, I wouldnt care..... Meaning, GM gives a base MSRP price, the dealers are the ones that killed the car by mark up... Not GM... 33,100 for an LS1 6 speed with the best fit and finish I have seen in a GM car, you cant go wrong......
We all bitch moan and whine about what we want, and then, when they give it to us, we bitch moan and whine about all the things they arent doing to it, when they just gave us what we asked for in the first place.......
If they would have brought the Monaro over and badged it as the new Grand Prix, these things would have sold like hot cakes.... So whats so different about it with the GTO badge on it... Hell GM sells Bonnevilles all day long for 3k more then the GTO.....

Hail Lutz, keep up the good work.... !
You hit it nail on with the "Goat".....!!!

Bonneville sales are terrible. Maybe not as bad as the GTO, but pretty close.

I'm happy GM brought the Monaro over. I just wish they had offered options on it.

you need to consult your local friendly Australian and learn how to convert currency. The Monaro is FAR FROM a $20k car!! Try over double that in US currency.

Eh the BASE Monaro in AUS is about $42,000 USD, so yes the US market actually gets quite a deal.

!!!! my old boss is australian, his brother just bought an HSV GTO - somewhere in the neighborhood of 80k australian. Cars there are quite pricey compared to the states.

Yes, but the rebadged grand prix would have cost 10,000 less.

DOES ANYBODY ELSE AGREE WITH ME THAT THE GTO WOULD HAVE BEEN100 TIMES BETTER IF THEY OFFERED A BASE VERSION ALONG WITH THE FANCY ONE. I FOR ONE COULD HAVE LIVED WITHOUT LEATHER, THE FANCY STEREO (JUST A CD PLAYER PLEASE), THE FANCY GAUGE COLORS (WHICH BY THE WAY LOST VOLT AND OIL PRESSURE IN THEIR "AMERICANIZATION"), ALL THE ALUMINUM TRIM, ETC.?????????????? AND PRODUCE AS MANY AS THE AMERICAN PUBLIC CAN HANDLE, TO KILL THE "RARITY" DEALER CLAIM (EVEN STILL WITH 10 OF THEM ON THE LOT)?????

Chrome wheels

Oh, speaking of corporate greed: Would it have killed them to slap a little chrome plating on those wheels and offer them as a $1,000 option? It would have really dressed up the car and padded the profit!!!!!!!

you can buy them from GM chrome plated...they look like ass. Main reason, because chrome is ghetto for most vehicles.

And why do you want to take away so much from the interior that makes it one of the best in comfort and quality that GM has to offer One minute people are bitching about interiors, then they want sh1t removed

GMs real sorry that you and many others can't afford, but tough oh well, that's life.

10k Less? Better go back and check the stickers on them....
GT2 runs around 25k.... GTP Comp G runs about 28-29k
Bonneville runs about 36k..... Hell, the SC/T's and 30th Anv GA's were 24-25k...
A 1997 WS6 T/A ran close to 35k fully optioned out......
So your bitching about 33k on something that blows all those mentioned above outta the water? Get real !
I got my GTO for 23k... "Less" than I paid for my 30th Anv... Do I feel I made a bad mistake? Yes....!!! With the 30th that is...!
As far as A "Fancy one" and a "Base One"... Forget about it... Why would I want my resale value to hit the floor like the GA does because every yuppy can get one in an SE version... Same with the Mustang... v-6 or v-8....
At least when someone sees my car, they know what I got, no questions asked... I like it that way.... The GTO is a "Halo" car, not to be confused with a MASS production car like the GA's and GP's.... The GTO is the NEW POWER of Pontiac... You dont have to like it, but lets be honest here, I have an 03 GA in the garage, I have an 04 GTO in the garage, when it comes time to go anywhere, which one do you think I get in?..... Thats right !

Yes each of these have at least $5,000 of incentives, trick financing, or some sort of give away priced into that "sticker price" to be discounted later.

What dealer are you getting your pricing from in 1997??????????

Outside of corporate greed, the biggest reason the f-bodies failed was a lack of investment back into the product and a continually bloating sticker price. The 2002's were pushing $35,000.00, hence thier demise. The GTO "HALO" car is headed down that same path.
