I was just going to purchase that. How sweet would a conversion package be. Lets get soem numbers on interest to let him know that. I would definately rather a swap package to beefing up the 4t45 if the electronics could be figured out

I'd rather have a beefed up 45 but I'll take either one.
swap would be more costly and take more time to do as well.

the only problem with a "conversion kit" is a kit wouldn't cut it. All new tranny mounts needed, and you would have to do some crafty welding of the cradle...

Ditto ... I'll take a beefed 45. It would take A LOT of time. Basically, you are looking at a whole new front crossmember, i.e. front end!

If the swap can be done more easily thru their innovation it would be great.

But a bulletproof 4t45e seems like it would incorporate much the same design of the 65 parts... so it could be feasible to accomplish.

I would much rather have the 45 in there. It is a TON easier to install and incorporate with the car's software b1tches. If there weren't all these damned sensors and computers I would have done the swap... but a built 45 is more cost effecient anyhow.

Let it break, and rebuild it with a Raybestos 4t45e Performance Rebuild Kit See superb durability and performance (along with a DHP/ASE chip). That would be awesome!

I emailed EVERYONE in their company the other day.

Hi John, my name is Patrick Lavanty and i represent a small part of the demand for some performance transmission upgrades. There are many members of grandamgt.com that are in the market for these parts. Our 4t45 trannies are rated at a mere 215 ftlbs and many of us are approaching and exceeding this mark fast. I think that if you were to develop parts for our cars it would be a mutually beneficial experience. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank You,
Patrick Lavanty

REPLIED:

Mr. Lavanty,

Thank you for your inquiry. We are getting ready to work with Stoney Automotive Engineering on friction plate development for the 4T45E. We are looking into distributing some components/upgrades for the 4T65E that have been validated to handle 1000+hp. The 4T45E will probably be improved to handle at least 400 hp. I will keep the Grand Am/Alero/Malibu community aware of any new developments as they are validated.

Thank you,

Chris Horbach

Product Application Engineer

Thumbs up Great News!

I have been trying to reach Chris on the phone - apparently he and Gordon Stoney are very busy on validating the said parts.

Good so I now know what to do in order to catch you. hehe

400HP is ok but I was hoping for better. To be perfectly honest though, I haven't had any tranny issues yet and the NOS is being strapped in before the summer so we will see I guess....

well hey i am new to this sight but i have had my tranny rebuilt not once but twice.thanks to my extended warranty i only had to pay 200 dollars well a lil more for the fluid and stuff but hey.it is still messed up after the rebuild so i am going to need it done again.my tranny is so bad if i am on a lil bit of an incline and in drive it won't move sometimes it will roll back.plus when i put it in park it rolls back about 3 inches or so.i know when it was good that it would roll up the incline without even touching the gas.so now i am just waiting for it to die again.

Do you drive agressively? Or are you only hard on it once in a while? The 45 should be more durable than what you have seen if you aren't all over it all the time... Although, yes, I belive tha these parts would be a solution, or at least part of a solution to your issue.
