Dodge will never put the hemi into the dakota, unless they reintroduce the R/T version, they might stick the 4.7 HO into some of them beginning next year, that engine would be perfect. This is the same as what was in the'04 grand cherokee oveerlands, they have 265hp.

I'd rather have a Ram 2500 with either the hemi or the turbo diesel
Cummins is nice, but those things are so damn loud. Quietest diesels I've heard are Duramax, but everyone says you have to replace the injectors after 40,000 miles.

Ok... I was just basing it off of the web-site. That is still nuts for the dakota over 30k for quad when you can get a Ram cheaper!

Well we just got back a little while ago from test driving a ION Redline. I can say just a couple things about it. I know the cobalt ss is going to be a bit different, but i can assure you this car is gonna kick ass. The power is deffinatly there. Low end pull and highway pull was outstanding, reminding me of my car when stock. The Handling was also nice for a saturn, a bunch nicer than the standard ion which is too soft to corner hard in. I would say it feels like it will run 14's without too much problem. Felt really nice, i think i want the Cobalt SS a little more now.

Few spec's

Engine: Ecotec 2.0L SC (LSJ)
Type: 2.0L supercharged/intercooled inline 4-cylinder
Displacement (cu in / cc): 122 / 1998
Bore & stroke (in / mm): 3.39 x 3.39 / 86 x 86
Block material: cast aluminum with cast iron cylinder liners
Cylinder head material: cast aluminum
Valvetrain: chain-driven dual overhead camshafts with roller followers, 4 valves per cylinder, dual rotating balance shafts
Ignition system: coil-on-plug coil-on-plug
Fuel delivery: sequential fuel injection
Compression ratio: 9.5:1
Horsepower (hp / kw @ rpm): 205 / 153 @ 5600
Torque (lb-ft / Nm @ rpm): 200 / 271 @ 4400
Recommended fuel: 91 octane unleaded
Maximum engine speed (rpm): 6450 fuel cutoff
Emissions controls: 3-way catalyst (Tier 2 LEV 2 Bin 8 )
Estimated fuel economy(mpg city / hwy / combined): TBD

I've seen CAI LSD and Cam mods for the engine already...cobaltss.net has a good amount of info on it. Big question on what the 1/4 mile time is i heard everything from 15.3 to 14.4 personally i'm thinking its at about 14.5.

If I was in the market for a small pocket rocket I would definetly wait for the Cobalt SS. That interior alone looks to be leaps and bounds ahead of the ION or a lot of other small car on the market for the most part.

Question: Outside of the obvious reason: W.T.F. this is going to be 2005 and only the top line model get 4 wheel discs?????? To me this is border line lunacy, to shave a couple bucks and screw most people out of better brakes! I am not talking for a performance perspective here, but for a SAFETY perspective.

The old R/T is pretty hot.
......I know

However, I thought this nugget of info might be beneficial to all the Dakota faithful: From what I ready on it, Dodge claims the HEMI cannot fit under the hood without some re-engineering.

How stupid can a manufacturer be to have a HEMI in the stable and make a new pick-up that cannot accomodate it.

The interior ot the ION redline was awesome. Still gm but the seats were Recaro, and possibly the second best seat ive ever been in(best were in the R32 Golf). It felt very solid and well built.

I just can't get over that center pod. Not for 20,000ish. I could tolerate it it a lot better if it was a 3,000 or less beater.

The hemi will fit under the hood of the newly designed dakota, in fact it even fits in the jeep renegade... and why would they want a 345hp motor in a dakota (non r/t) when its already in the ram, the 4.7 is doing just fine for the dakota

My brother works at a Chevy dealership and rumor has it that the Cobalt SS production has been halted to to a major issue that needs to be fixed before anymore roll off the line. The problem itself has not been anounced, but it must be pretty serious if they stopped all production.

Either way, I think this car has some serious potential to compete with the honda's and mitsubishi's out there.

you can run 87 with it. And unless you get a lemon i think it will run high 14's out the box

Small problem with the headlights. No major issues. The Cobalts are now at the dealers and some people already got one

Interesting! So we can chalk this up to corporate greed. What happened to the good old days of having a buffet of engine choices? Everything the manufacturer made you could order (1960's)? While I am off topic: what happened to being able to order an option a la carte instead of a package?

Dodge did it on the previous Dakota!
Pre-HEMI days.
