Add an SC to it and bump up to 55 more hp than a stock 3400 NA. Not very impressive to me...

But what do I know?

couldnt agree more! i think the 3400 is the lS1 of GM v6's! Very mod-able.... doesnt knock like the 3800 cuz it isnt made for boost and has really good pistons and a bottom end.

personally i think our only problem is the CAM!

you take a 3800 NA with the same mods as me and I will SMOKE EM yo!

When I still had my rims I ran a 17" with a 42+ offset with 245/45/17s for rubber. With my Eibach's and KYBs I did not rub one bit. So fitting a 245 is defenitly possible.

You willing to put money on that?

Take maybe a NA 3800 and put it in a GA vs. a 3400 GA.

I think not.

We are all dumber for having just read that.

Best engine's in the world??? What are you smoking? Lets compare...

Stock 3400 makes 175hp and 205ft/lbs. That's 51.47hp/liter of displacement.

Stock 3800 makes 195hp and 225ft/lbs. That's 51.31hp/liter... which is better?

Another comparison. Nissan's 3.5L VQ35, lets say the variant in the 350Z at 287hp, which comes out to 82hp/liter. Or how about the honda S2000 engine at a full 100hp/liter. How does a 3800 fit into that category again?

2.4 LD9

150 h.p......62.5 h.p. per liter 64.6 tq. per liter

Muhahahahaha!!!

2.4> 3400&3800 :P

IMO...this theory proves NOTHING.

I mean...come on...the LS1 only makes 56 h.p. per litre. does that mean the LD9 is a better motor? I think not.

Actually the 3800 was on Wards 10 best engine list for I believe 6 years straight. By my math my LS1 stock made 61.4 HP/Ltr, I know it's not LD9 but close with two less valves!

We talking Z-28 LS1 or SS LS1?

Anyways... for the 3800 haters (zips suit up)

here clubgp's top 100 1/4 times..(keep in mind...some of these are probably not up to date)

3 -10 second cars
16 -11 second cars
78- 12 second cars
3 -13.0 second cars

and as a side note .. 343 13.01-13.99 cars

Show me another car that runs high 14's stock than can compile a top 100 like this. Looks like it's just the DSM's huh...... and maybe if you weed through the billions of swaped imports.

My point has been made.

Yeah, having a higher output per liter definitely makes them better engines.

Hp per liter is a reason for the people who need an excuse to make themselves feel special. That is all it is, and nothing more.

The only thing that matters is the final result whether that be 400hp or 4000hp. Give me a reason why more hp per liter is better than more hp and you have proven me wrong.

its not power that makes it great........its the whole package......tho im still a bigger fan of jap engines.....im just stating the facts....the 3800 is one of the things that GM did right

Hmm...The 3400 has been in GAs for 5 years. 6 years after 3800s were in GPs, they were in the 10s. So what's the excuse for 3400s not being right on the edge of running 10s yet if they're a better engine with more mod potential? How many 3400s are in the 12s again? Aside from a fat shot of juice, how much money does it take to put a 3400 into the 13s?

You can argue that 3800s are only fast with boost. Well, are 3400s really going to ever be all-motor monsters? Anyone here who wants to ever run 12s or better should plan on boost. There's no way around it.

Argue lack of aftermarket for 3400s. Well, who's fault is that?

3800s are better engines than 3400s. Period. Someone throw 23 psi at a stock 3400 bottom end and see if it results in a 10 second pass or 10 pieces of each piston in the oil pan. There's a reason the 3800 has been around so long.

Edit, Disclaimer: I'm not bashing GAs at all, I still love them, miss mine, and know my roots. Just a friendly engine argument.

Damn, nuff said.

I love my 3400, but that car is just sick. It's cool to see people experimenting with S/Ced 3800's in GA's. Car looks kinda gaudy though, I don't like the way the showoff kit looks on that car with that paint scheme.
