I heard through the grapevine that the Pats haven't touched their field in 10 days in hopes of letting it get as muddy and slippery as possible for the Colts this weekend. Anyone know any truth to that? I think its a smart play by Bill, but its also one of those things that makes you think "can they do that??".

what they are doing that makes you think "can they do that?" is leaving the field uncovered hoping to let the ground freeze, but since its like 50+ here today that may not happen, unless the weather for the next couple days is cold (havent looked yet).
this could also be a shot back at the nfl who made them lay new field in the middle of their field after it had been all torn up and muddy one week.

Good, then they'll have some memorabilia for when the Jets get their ass handed to them, they can look at your sign and remember the game like it was yesterday. Just don't put anything expensive out there, and look at the bright side: they could have stolen your GA.

its gonna rain all day tomorrow. And then the temp is gonna drop to the high 20's. 30% chance of snow showers on gameday, around 25 degrees with 15 mph winds. Im sure the field will be just like the Pats want it

i don't think they're allowed to let the field conditions deteriorate. The league mandates that you do so much upkeep so not to have an unfair advantage. I just remember seeing this on sportscenter or something

it's been raining and snowing here the past few days. More rain is expected tomorrow and the field is not covered. Temps are gonna drop a ton for a gametime. Theres a picture of the field in our newspaper today and its a mess. Homefield advantage at its finest

i think you cant do anything to purposely damage your field for an advantage, but they cant make you cover it.
like if you bulldozed the field that would be illegal, but leaving the cover off is a owner's decision probably.

bryan1727, your avatar reminds me of that dunkin donuts commercial where all the customers are wearing eye black and someone asks why and the employee answers "to cut down the glare" then the camera pans over to three pats players eating breakfast with their superbowl rings on

Their defense had a few holes this season, it's not as powerful as it was in their Super Bowl year. Although I think it managed to finish 6th in the league? Somewhere in the top 10, I don't remember.
As far as Ray Lewis, I genuinely believe that he was innocent in that whole murder trial, and not just because I'm a fan of the team. He's a very classy, well educated man, I think he was just with the wrong people at the wrong time.

from ESPN: League officials examined the turf Thursday and judged it to be in excellent condition.
There's a 90 percent chance of rain or snow on Friday in the Boston area before a dry weekend with temperatures ranging from 20 to 34 degrees on Saturday and 16 to 33 degrees on Sunday, with mostly cloudy skies. There will be plenty of time for the moisture to turn to ice before the game's late afternoon start, at 4:45 p.m. EST.
The weather men are now saying theres a chance of snow on sunday.

it was so cold that as soon as you opened a beer bottle it would freeze to slush if you didnt hold it over the fire i love football and tailgating

well it begins by saying how they're leaving it uncovered and hoping that it gives them an edge. but then it says that the league says it's in excellent condition. So, i'm not sure where they are trying to go with that article.

plus if the field is slippery i feel it gives DB's a disadvantage, and thats not what the pats want, but i still think each team has the same field to play on so whats it matter

Straight from the Washington Post.

The league sent a representative to inspect the field at Gillette Stadium and was satisfied with the condition of the playing surface. The Patriots left the field uncovered during one rainy day this week, and sloppy conditions Sunday probably would favor them in their matchup with the pass-happy Colts. But the field was covered Thursday night. The NFL requires the home time to put a tarp over the field, if there is the possibility of precipitation, only on the day and night immediately prior to the game . . .

So the pats could have that field in any shape they want up until saturday morning.

theres one picture showing a muddy field, the picture is show from an angle so that all you see is the muddy section, well that muddy section of the field happens to be behind the endzone where a snow bank was. very misleading

THIS JUST IN: the field was uncovered to allow the painting of logos and such to be painted on and allowed time to set and then be touched up and layered again
has been covered since then. so this was all just a big hype
