Yaaaaaaaaawn.... That says it all about the GTO. Marketed to 36-44 year-old males as indicated by the sales material for the dealers. GM must have figured 36-44 males that are impotent cause the car looks gunshy. Just drop a V-8 in a Cavalier..... that would have saved so much in import tax for GM!!!

REVIEW OF THE MUSTANG FROM THE UK BASED TOP GEAR
Quote:
Almost immediately, a mysterious, persistent squeak emanates from the trim; exact source unknown. I probably wouldn't notice it normally but it's before 6am and, frankly, everything is annoying at this time of day.The wretched state of LA's freeway system doesn't flatter the Mustang's suspension either. We crash over the scarred concrete and judder over expansion joints as the sun rises through the early morning photochemical haze. No wonder 'Governator' Schwarzenegger drives a Hummer.

The new Mustang's suspension is not exactly cutting-edge engineering. The rear end is based around a solid live axle, roughly the diameter of a telegraph pole
Quote:
look close up and you can see how Ford has kept costs down. Tap the big chrome rings around the clocks and they're plastic underneath, as are the 'aluminum'-look doorhandles. The handbrake and centre console too are made of cheap, brittle plastic.
Quote:
The Tremec manual gearbox in our GT gave cause for concern, though. Lumpy and rather agricultural feeling, it graunched and churned away like a slot machine paying out all the way to Vegas. Maybe they're all like that or maybe we had a dud. Either way, it's bad. In the twenty-first century, a new Ford really should not be making noises like that..

Take a look around the net for opinions on what the GTO looks like, they range anywhere from the cavalier to the sunfire, and even to the GP and Bonneville

VERY Suprising that he has a Ford GT. I remember they ragged on the Corvette, even tho it went up against the best they had.

I know I was shocked as well "After all the trashing they do of american cars, he buys one?!" was pretty much what I was thinking. The other odd thing is the younger host has a 60's vintage american muscle car as well, I believe it's a charger? Wierd, but I still love that show!

Funny, I don't see it as the insult it was intended to be, and it does look like a large Cavalier.

Cavalier's look nice and the GTO looks like it should be a Chevrolet, not a Pointac.

Typically Chevrolet's are on the plain/clean/conservative side of being good looking and Pontiac's are more trendy and have more wings, ribs and lines etc....

They brought back the "Malibu" name, why not call this Holden a "Chevelle"?

Ok my main points were
1/ that the GTO does not in any way = a Cavalier. Why? because its on a vastly different platform, has different interior, different sixe, different skin, different engine and trans, different materials, different layout, different electronics and on different suspension.
2/ that the world media have not been conned by Ford into believing that the mustang is the pinacle of the automotive world. Its design is old, its suspension is both old and cheap, has less than desirable interior and its mechanicals are less than impressive. Dont get me wrong as a ford hater. In my view one of the best engine is a ford I6 4L engine currently residing in the Falcon XR6T.

fo44rd im assuming that you a loyal ford follower (and might be blinded by this loyalty). So admit the fact that ford does make great cars, however the mustang GT isnt one of them.

Yep. I agree 100% it is almost NOTHING like a FWD small Cavalier mechanically... however, I would bet the battery and some of the electronics are fairly similar given it was made by the same company.

Also, I think you are getting a little carried away there buddy... Different materials? It's not made of steel, rubber, plastic and saftey glass?

With that said it still looks similar to a Cavalier (only larger and car mag editors etc... have also said the same thing) and still looks like a Chevy with a rounded out Grand Prix front end. Good looking IMHO. Looks American. Only an idiot would confuse it's looks with a Japanese or European car.

Ford sucks ass. With that said they improved the suspension and brakes on the Mustang to new level, it's actually caught up to the 90's. Kinda like Harley-Davidson finally stepped into the 80's with the V-Rod now that it's the 00's.
