I apologize, you are right. However, he did run a 14.9 with only SLP and DHP. Still quite a feat...

Another random question
What did gm screw up between the 3.1mpi and 3100. I love the 3.1 and have seen many pushing over 200k. But the 3x00 has the lower intake problem.

OHV isn't trash, even OHC engines are OHV (over head valve). What do you want a flat head? Now if you're talking about pushrod technology being crap, I give you the LS1/LS6. GM actually brought displacement down from 350 cid (LT1) to 346 cid (LS1) and made about 20-30 more WHP for the LS1 and about 100 more WHP for the LS6. Ford has to run not 1 but 2 OHC's to even get close to an LS1 and then supercharge to beat it and still lose to the LS6. If you think the LS1/LS6/LS2 are NOT a modern engine, you need to learn more about them. If you really knew anything about engines you'd know OHC is not anything new or high tech. Variable valve timing on the other hand....

Now, for the original post. My GAGT now has 132k miles w/ only fuel pump, rotor, and blinker problems and I just replaced the T-stat last month (old one was stuck). How do you keep it from breaking? Regular maintenance and not dogging on it like its a hot rod.

Now about them being weak. Ya, GM could do more with their 60* V6's jus tlike they have with the 90*. Instead they put their resources to crap like the Cobalt SS to get a piece of the tuner market that wouldn't look at domestic anyway. Gm needs to make manual trannys available in more cars too. The thing you have to look at is how other companies are getting their power ratings. Are they over rating, because some do? You also need to look at torque numbers (something imports are usually lacking) and the power band. Who cares if you can get a car with a peak of 200 HP @ 6500 RPM if it's power is lacking in usable RPMs. Give me a car that makes good power off idle on up to red line over a car with just a higher peak HP at RPMs rarely seen. Then you have the fact that any of the import advertised numbers are more than likely from a manual while GM's power numbers are with a auto. Yes, that does make about a 5% difference.

LS1's are fun Especially when you buy LS6 heads and cam and get roungly another 75 horsepower bringing it up to 400HP

I haven't owned my GA long enough to brag it up, but I can say that so far it hasn't had any real downfalls. It has about 97,000 miles on it and doesn't use any oil. I think why it seems like the car has so many problems is that Pontiac sold a bunch of Grand Ams. The people that come on here to talk about their cars usually are looking for more performance than the average owner, or are looking for the solution to a problem that they may be having. How many GA owners, that never come online, are perfectly happy with their car and drive it many years without a problem or complaint. I also know that no matter what manufacturer you want to talk about someone out their will be able to tell about a car that just wasn't all that good. For example, I owned a 91 Nissan Sentra, loved the car until 5th gear went out in the tranny. I spent about $700 to get another transmission and have it installed only for this one to do the same thing about 5 weeks after being installed. Because of this incident I would have to think long and hard about buying another Nissan.

Im pretty sure. Her car dynoed around 260 to the wheels IIRC.

My car just topped over 70k miles last month, and it's still running strong. I've never had to replace the LIM gasket *crosses fingers*, and I've never had any problems with anything leaking. Basically, I've never had any engine problems whatsoever in the three years I've had my car. The tranny slips every now and then, but you'll have that. I am also a VERY strong believer of the "your engine will treat you as well as you treat it" moto. I may be hard on my engine every now and then when I want to gun it, but I make sure it's clean inside and out constantly. I use a little bit of Sea-Foam or Lucas Engine Restorer in the gas and oil twice a year. Those "additives" they sell are crap. I'm due for a new fuel filter and pump soon, and I'll be getting the injectors thoroughly cleaned, also. Bottom line is, the 3400 isn't crap. It's a very stout power plant. GoldH.O. (I think that's his name on here) ran a 14.9 stock 1/4 mile. STOCK!!! That's pretty decent in my books. I personally like lining up next to a teenage kid (no offense to all you teenagers) in a Mustang or a Honda with a fart tube on it and smoking them. Sorry to say it, but if you have multiple problems with your 3400, you have a lemon...
I ran a 15.382 stock ran 15.110 with SLP. And DHP took me down to 14.9 thats almost a half secound from 2 mods.... i guess that gonna be slow this year

Its a 2006 engine, do you expect them to put it in every car the first year?! Even when the 3100 came out in 93, it was only in 2-3 cars. It's official debut was in 94, and even then there were still a couple cars that kept the 3.1MPFI.

I've never even seen that turbo engine... thats sweet! Nice to see GM starting to devote some time to turbo technology again. If they do their research and get it right it should really pay off. I'd like to see them do a turbo version for the solstice, hopefully instead of that crappy supercharged 2.0L. They didn't get enough power out of that for being boosted. If they kept the 2.4L ecotec and turbo'd it that would be awesome. There should be plenty of room in the engine bay with the engine mounted for RWD instead of transversely.
