Like I said it's a nice car. I'd buy one if I was in the market for that type of vehicle.... it'd match my Cavalier.

GM's marketing department sucks ass. No one knows much about GTO and the few people that do don't want to or cannot dish out the coin.

Look at the deal people would get with an F body back in the late 90's. Kicks the **** out of the deal with an SRT-4 now, however, people didn't buy LS1 F-bodies.... why? Terrible marketing. Who really knew the Z28 had 300HP and could be had for 24 grand?

Before you say it, I know the GTO is a better built car than F-body etc... regardless, it suffers the same problem of bad marketing.

It has less rattles as long as you make sure not to buy the Mexican built one.

That will make all 12 people that were really going to buy a brand new one in 2006 upset.

Nice car. Horrible marketing.

Doh, what was I thinking. GTO on the Zeta platform.

Damn, that sounded stupid now that I read it. Really, what was I thinking?

50 more hp............and the stang weighs how much less than the fat goat.

Power to weight ratio people. ever think about that.

05 GTO stock won't even come close to the shelby. face the fact period.

the wieght difference isnt that much

GTO = 3725 pounds

05 Stang GT = 3500 pounds...and i assume the shelby will be more

plus its not just power..you have to take into consideration gearing, suspension, ECT....

It's a dumb argument all together....hell, get an old AWD talon and spend about 15 grand and it'll run low 9's everyday......still, its an old talon. I'm sure that the new Cobra will be very fast and easy to boost.....but it'll still be a Mustang. SO if ya dont like Mustangs, it will always be a moot point.

At least:

-The majority of Mustangs will be cloth interior'd V-6'ers with automatics.

-ALL GTO's will be nice leather clad, V8-powered cars with AT LEAST 350hp.

At least there isn't a RENTAL stripped GTO and as far as I can see, there wont be one.

GTO was not intended to be a Camaro/Trans Am replacment, it is in a different class.

It was a mistake to name the thread what I did. I only named it that because I was surprised Ford actually came up with higher HP #'s right after they dumped the 6.0 in the GTO.

You are less of a person since you can't afford a really nice car to suck down $3.00 per gallon gas really fast. So you are not the kid with the nicest bicycle on the block.

My 04 Cavalier makes less noises than my 01 GA did. It feels more stable going down the road too, and it's never left me stranded wheras the GA did. Not saying that about all GA's or Cavalier's, just my personal experience.

I like that, all very good points!! It has been fun reading everything also!

Mike, I totally agree about the marketing. I didn't really know ( and never saw much about it at all!) that a Z28 could be had for about 24 grand with 300hp back in the day. I knew alot about firebirds/formulas/TAs (which are obviously very compariable I realize), but only because I love them (yes loved ). The style kicked so much a$$!!!

P>S> I really miss my TAs and Firehawks. But I will have one soon enough, I would take a 2002 Firehawk or 99 TA Anniv. edition over MANY muscle cars despite at the most they had 345hp from the production line!!
sorry about the off topic!!

read the thread, the two arent supposed to be compared, and when they are the gt500 which isnt even being sold yet has a slight edge (not in price) over a year older gto.

plus i would never buy a car the first year a model came out... just a thing with me. i give them a year to work out the kinks.... and i realize i have a 99 grand am. but it was used and not many choices. so yeah

The SVT's are pretty good compared to a regular 1st year model. Thats why they spend so much time testing and building them, along with hand building and testing it. You can se who ever built your motor on the engine.

Personally I actually like the new mustang's exterior, especially when compared to the GTO's exterior. I still think the interior is all wrong though. The shifter and that gawd awefull parking brake handle! This thread isn't about likes and dislikes though, it's about horsepower.

I think this whole thread is kinda rediculous though because it's comparing apples and oranges. Ok, the new mustang GT500 is gonna have 450hp. Well they had to up displacement from 4.6L to 5.4L and put 8.5psi of boost on it to do it. Sure it's got tons of potential, but you're talking about a boosted engine and thats a totally different animal. If it was NA it would be another story. A GTO with a 6.0L LS2 has 405hp NA. You could match the GT500's 450hp with intake, headers, and exhaust in NA form. MAYBE a cam or some rockers. If you boosted it the same 8.5psi, you're looking at probably 550+hp. Gotta remember you have an extra .6L displacement with the LS2. The old 5.7L LS1 would almost be a better comparison, but we're comparing current engines here with current technological improvements. All this bickering is really pointless. BOTH cars are gonna have awesome hp and be wicked fast. Why don't we just let people chose which style they like better and leave it at that?
