No 19 year old can even get credit to buy a car w/out a cosigner. I'm sure he traded in the GA, that daddy probably bought. Is he still living under Daddy's roof eating daddy's food? If so....daddy bought it.

The Grabd am slow is never and will never be a "street racer" yeah some people here have modded the cars out with superchargers(not cheap) that are getting decent times, or turbo charged GA with some NO2 firing it off and you are getting decent times. However incase you fail to realize the Subaru lineage is > the GA lineage The Subaru AWD is > the FWD torque steer you get in a souped up GA The Subaru chassis, engine, , service, build quality, and interior quality is all > the GA You can hate on domestics because they suck, massive cubic engines with massive HP does not equal a good ride in all cases. Especially when it comes to a daily driver. You CAN hop in an STI and be FINE for a daily driver here, hell I see em all the time. You CANNOT get in a souped up GA and daily drive that in the winter. and the GA HAS to be souped up to just get CLOSE to the STI/WRX area. so if you want to get in a ****ing contest of "dumping cash into car X makes it better than car Y" you are an idiot, the post is about daily drivers. domestic cars with horrid gas mileage, engine trouble, built quality issues and all the other issues the domestics are running into, are very FAR from the decent gas mileage, superior speed, handling, looks, and quality. Hate on each side all you want, but they both have their upsides. American trucks are better than the imports, but domest cars are worse off then the imports. Mainly because only in America do you see a ton of trucks like we have and import wise they specialize in cars and sub compacts Europe, Japan and the GM/ford builders in OTHER portions of the world are FAR better then the crap America is pooping out. The UAW are VERY much to blame for this, but that is a whole nother post and a whole nother day.

Plus had he gotten a TA to begin with he'd probably be making the same stupid remarks about imports that he made about domestics.

To begin with, the comparison was between a GTO and STi. Funny how high HP domestic can't be driven daily. I drive a SS w/ 315 rwhp daily. I have a close friend that drives his 400 rwhp Formula daily. There are many guys who drive 12-11 sec domestics daily. Just take a look at the 03-04 Cobra w/ 390 RWHP STOCK. I guess all these daily driven "high Hp" cars really aren't? Domestics get horrible fuel milage huh? I guarantee my domestic gets better milage than an STi. STi =18/24 mpg (from Subaru's website). 18 mpg city is easy for me even with spirited driving or a lot of sitting in traffic. I regularly see over 20 mpg around here. 28 mpg hwy is what I average. If you actually read my post you'll see I've gotten up to 30 mpg w/a nice 125 mph run on that tank. A GTO is basically the same drivetrain so it should get similar numbers. Even a SC'd Cobra could at least match the same milage of the Sti. So much for your arguement there. Time to lose that R I cer mentality that domestics drink fuel like mad. Superior speed? If you're talking top speed, AWD will slow you down. If you're talking 1/4 mile, lower lower than 11 and its slows you down also. BTW, can the STi do 150 mph stock? Looks? That is pure opinion. I think tall workbench spoilers are overkill, but thats me. Quality? I've seen quality issues in imports also. Handling? Depends on the car. Care to try a C5 or C6? Want to compare cars of the same size? A Cobalt I'm sure would hadle quite well, at least as well as a Civic. My GA handles at least as well as an Accord. I've driven stock imports and domestics back to back on a coarse and they all handle comperably when you compare them in the same class. Hate on both sides? I haven't hated on any side. I've only hated on the domestic bashing by people who obviously have had only 1 other car to compare anything to. If you want to be technical about it, my SS is an import...from Canada. I do agree about the UAW a little. I also think manufacturers and government regulations are to blame also.

I refuse to contribute to the "domestic vs. import" argument. It's 2005, half the "domestic" cars are imports and vise versa, not to mention that there are import car companies like Mitsubishi that fall into the same steriotype as what some people see all domestics, with questionable quality and poor resale value.
Both STi and GTO are great but very different vehicles, however, I do not plan on buying either. |

More like a bash/defend domestic thread. I have seen no hate towards imports. At least not from me. Like I said, if I wanted a sleeper family car I'd be shopping for an Impreza wagon to mod. If a car is quick, then great. Who cares who makes it and why bash another car just because its a little slower in stock form? Is there many people who race that would leave their performance car stock anyway?
