Milzy... I'm interested in tranny work. A gearing change, especially on an SE, would be a HUGE difference in 1/4 mile times. Right now I suffer with a terrible 1/8th mile, but a great trap speed in the 1/4, because I'm geared to the moon. I'm interested in the a final drive ratio change. I'd love to do a h/c at some point too, probably with a complete rebuild (106k on the motor already) I think the interest is there for the gear change, I'd really like to see that for this car.

I'm not sure what the estimated cost for someone else to do the conversion. of course you'll need a 4t65, so that could be anywhere between 300-1000 depending what year/condition/model you get. Then you'll need custom axles made. i would think that would be a few hundred, but haven't researched it a whole lot. If you pay to have it done, you'll probably pay 500+ in just labor. and then all that\'s left after that would be the custom brackets, and however we can get the pcm to get along with the new trans.

I've done some pretty extensive research on this myself. The 4t65 is just a touch bigger and you will need some custom brackets and axles but you also need to notch the subframe a little for it to fit, I already have a 65tranny and a brand new extra subframe that me and n2o-olds have been working on, as far as we have figured the pcm programming shouldn't be that big of a deal, but then again we have access to the pcm programming on the supercharged aztek that had a 3400 with the 65 tranny.......

I've always thought a 65 tranny swapped would be much better in the long run for boosted applications, the swap would be cheaper than a built 45 not to mention the fact that the 65 tranny aftermarket is light years ahead of the 45 tranny aftermarket.....

I would love to be a part of this MMS project, it would be a little hard for me being in Colorado/South Dakota........From my research i know if you sit down and work (assuming you have access to junk hard and metal fabbing equipment) solid the swap can be had in a weekend......

Milzy if there is any way i can be a part of this pm me, maybe we can work something out.....

Realistically speaking, a step up in gears generally results in dropping .1 on your ET, and losing 1mph. Not much more than that. At least that's from that's how it is in GP world. Won't be much different for GAs.

Yea, I hear what your saying Dave, I still think going from a 3.05 to somewhere like a 3.42 would be a huge change for my car, which struggles to pull those first 60ft, but absolutely screams on top. Supercharged GPs probably have plenty of grunt off the line with the supercharger, but an NA build would probably benifit more from a gear change, than say, the boost motor. My thoughts anyways. Maybe I have a lowend deficiet that is unique to my car, but my bottom end just isn't that strong.

Ya a change in the FDR from 3.05 to 3.43 should make more than a .1 difference in ET no?

I am surprised that no one has jumped on the 4t65 swap instead of spending in upwards of $2000 to rebuild the stock tranny.
