Question Are you using a Synthetic ACEA A3 rated Motor Oil

I am just wondering how many people here are using a synthetic motor oil that is ACEA A3 rated ?

For example of some are:
Mobil 1 0W40
&
Made in Germany - Castrol Syntec 0W30

I am; using the German Castrol Syntec 0W30 synthetic motor oil.


PS: Especially if you run your engine hard.

I use Castrol Syntec 5w-30 and AC-Delco filter. Plus every 50,000 miles I put in a quart of that DuPont Teflon oil Additive (i.e. Slick 50).

Castrol Syntec 5W30 is only ACEA A5 rated (ACEA A3 is a higher performance rating); but so is Mobil 1 5W30 & 10W30 only rated ACEA A5.

NONE of the US made Castrol Syntec is real 'synthetic' !
None are made with PAO's; just group III type hydro-cracked dino oil.

If you want a real 'synthetic' motor oil that is made with PAO's in the grade of 5W30, check-out: Mobil 1 5W30 or Mobil 1 EP 5W30.

The Castrol Syntec 0W30 is made & imported from Germany made with PAO's & Esters (at least from the last year's/last generation that was tested on BITOG forum).

DON'T use Teflon in your engine
It is NOT made to go in your engine; from the makers Dupont.

What about royal purple? Whats its ACEA rating? And is it a true synthetic? From its description it sounds like its not a true synthetic. "SynerlecŪ is Royal Purple's proprietary, lubricant technology that strengthens the oil to provide unmatched performance and protection." But I've had no problems with using RP 5W-30 with a PureOne Puralator. I still change the oil every 3000 miles and the oil still comes out a dark purple. There is no oil consumption, 4.5 quarts goes in and all 4.5 quarts comes out. And I've heard nothing but good things about it.

What's wrong with Slick 50? How is it going to hurt your engine?

Yep, been using Amsoil for a few years. We use their racing vairant in the race cars, 2 stroke vairant in the 2 stroke applications and even in the lawnmowers.

e; no, not he 0W-30, using 5W-30.

teflon isnt good for ur engine. Also fram double gaurd oil filters have teflon in them too and isnt good for your engine

In fact too if u do have a higher milage engine, in some cases its better to switch to 10W-30 (if running 5W)



Also is there another site about syntech oil that isnt from www.amsoil.com (sorry compaines tend to hype their **** up) also i heard too that the oil cleaners that compaines advertise is just a money grab! and i am sure AMS filters are just as good as any other name brand filters (i use a fram syntec but just found out that syntech filters are really no better than any other decent filter out there so i am thinking just getting an AC-Delco One, cuz it helps elimante some of the drivetrain noises)

also too AMS oil is good stuff right now i am running 5W-30 (havent ventured into 0W-30 yet, but i am asuming u want to get ride of that for winter)
and not too sure if I belive the claim of 25,000 Mile protection, but i am think i will change it around 10,000KM (sry canadian)

well i do agree AMS oil is good stuff, I also seen on Hotrod TV where they got a 12hp dyno gain by replacing all the fluids in a 2000 Camaro SS with Purple Royal Syntech fluids

Yes, Royal Purple is real synthetic motor oil made with PAO's.

Royal Purple doesn't seem to have rated it in ACEA terms.
ACEA ratings are European based; but are good because they have different performance levels.
Not like API SM & GF-4.

Royal Purple 'street' synthetic motor oil SHEARS down !
(Like a 5W30 would be a 20-weight oil by the time they are done using it.)
Based on what people have their used oil analysised on BITOG forum.

Since you have a STi now.

I would STRONGLY recommend an ACEA A3 rated real 'synthetic' motor oil.
Like:
Made in Germany - Castrol Syntec 0W30 synthetic motor oil
or
Mobil 1 0W40 synthetic oil (factory-fill for all new Porches & Mercedes AMGs)

Most ACEA A3 rated oils are 40-weight oils (& up).
But people seem to prefer German Castrol Syntec 0W30 because it is a thick 30-weight (almost 40-weight) & it is shear stable (no VI improvers).
& a 30-weight oil will spool up faster your turbo than a thicker 40-weight oil.

If you don't want that thick of a oil.
Check out some ACEA A5 rated oils like:
Mobil 1 EP 10W30 & 5W30 synthetic motor oil (but DON'T run it for 15K-miles, more like 5K-miles).

Green M04... GC (last generation, the Gold M0502+... GC is the new generation), that is what is in my car right now with a NAPA Gold (made by Wix) oil filter.

In the US:
Made in Germany - Castrol Syntec 0W30 oil is ONLY available at AutoZone.

Make sure on the back label, it says:
Made in Germany
&
ACEA: A3

GC is actually not that good in winter
It's a little too thick
The 0W does not take into effect until like -30 to -40°C range; before that it is actually thick-as/thicker than a 10W30 oil.
I know that Mobil 1 5W30 cold cranks faster to a start then GC 0W30 at -25°C.

Oil FIlters:
IMO, I would recommend a Wix/NAPA Gold/Carquest Premuim Blue oil filters.
Or a K&N oil filter if you want a high oil flow filter [for more top end power (maybe-?)]
(Wix flow a little less oil flow than K&N, but filter better.)
