o yea, btw, since your doing subs, two way 6x9's are the way to go so the bass doesn't drown out your highs and mids, even though it shouldn't be much of a prob with components...my friend has 3 ways in the rear of his car and he also has subs, and you would neve know he even had speakers in the rear because the bass completely drowns out the sound of his 6x9's...another thing too, you don't have to, but components do sound a whole lot better when amped...I hooked mine up without an amp and they weren't all that good, then I hooked them up to the amp and they screamed...those speakers can crank... to Kicker for having made those awesome components

dude i am telling you DONT BUY before you shop around. i can almost promise you thats you will regret it! i had to drive an hour and a half to preview any of the boston i have in my car. i was going to get some mb quart premiums up front and i am really glad i didnt. the bostons were worth the drive and money. i am not telling you to go out and buy a more expensive speaker i am telling you to listen to every speaker. go beyond the cc and bb out there. there is better stuff for the same price. see if you can find a pioneer premier dealer. they are about the same prices as the stuff in cc, but sound a little better. i just dont want you to waist money man. that is one of the biggest set backs in the world.

true that...check out every option before you make a purchase...even the crappy speakers that you would expect to sound like ass, you just might be surprised...from my experience, just do it right the first time, so u don't have to end up kicking urself in the @ss like I did

I just got onto Alpine's website for the first time, and am liking what I'm seeing. Can anyone compare an Alpine to a Clarion head unit, dvd player, source commander, tv tuner.... anything really. I'm stuck between these two brands!

it's hard to compare without knowing which models you're looking at. different models have different preout voltage, different EQ's, different DTE, some have bass engines and others do not. i generally have had more success with alpine HU's then clarion and i am unaware of a processor that clarion makes that even compares to say the F1's from alpine, but again, it depends on which models you're looking at specifically.

oh also there were 2 reasons why i didnt get a screen, but got a pop out in dash instead. first was theft. a pop out you can take off your face plate just like a normal head unit. i dont live in a very awful place or anything but one tends to think constintly about "is my car getting broke into?" that is one thing i didnt want to always be thinking about. second is that you dont have to make anything for it to fit. easy install.

You make excellent points Metallman56. Both of those are huge plus's for the pop-out. The again, a trick installation is always cool, .

For Clarion. I was looking into the VRX755VD. For Alpine, the CVA-1014 or the IDA-D310. I don't need navigation, or a rear camera, or satellite ready anything. I don't ever think I'll want that stuff in my car. I really like the rouch-screen idea though, major plus in my book.

Quote:
try adding a DVD player, TV tuner, video game console, plus 2 monitors
-from the CVA-1014 page.

That's exactly what I want to do, . But I think it would be nice to have the head-unit itself play DVDs. If not, then I have a gaming system to do that with.

I was also looking into this setup....

TME-M770 monitor with DVA-9860 head unit.

Any thoughts???

that's why I bought my Python 700 with 2-way remote...now I can sleep at night knowing that my TSI is safe...if you got the cash to front for a system, be prepared to front some for an alarm cuz ur gonna be pretty ****ed off when somebody takes it...you can either spend an extra $300 now and sleep soundly, or be very nervous about leaving your car anywhere because some fu*ktard decided that your life seemed to be going a little too smoothly and jacked your $1000+ worth of stereo equipment...I figured if I was gonna have $1800 worth of electronics + some performance mods, rims, etc I might as well throw in the extra cash and get something that will keep it safe when I'm not there to...people get jealous and desperate, I've seen it too many times

I appreciate the concern, and I plan on shaopping around. I probably won't even think to buy until Christmas time.

I also plan on getting an alarm system. While on Clarion's website, I stumbled across this neat little 2 Way remote system with remote unlock and start up. I think I may spend the dough on that to protect my stuff. Luckily, I'm in a pretty laid back neighborhood and town. Also, I know all the guys that go car-hopping, anf they won't mess with me, I'm almost an insider, . Besides, with such a small town, the joker who took your **** is almost always cought and brought to justice around here. Ooh Rah to the cops that actually care! The sherrifs dpt.

if you do invest in an alarm, do it right and grab a DEI alarm, be it clifford, viper, or the like. they are hands down the best mainstream alarms on the market.

I would recommend compustar for an alarm. There 1 way alarms come with 3000 feet in range. DEI doesn't even come close. The 2 way models come with 6000 feet in range. And these are the best alarms hand down. Hence the CES Inovation award in 2004.

well good i am glad you dont live in a **** town. just remember i could see your car on the web, get your adress, steel your ****, and be out of there before the sun comes up. no one is invincible, not even with an alarm. now me i am not that concerd about my car because i park in my garge. witch is on the other side of the wall from my bed. i am not a sound sleeper, and noises wake me up all the time. i figure if you can get into my garage, dont set my alarm off, and pick my lock, you have almost earned my system. but if i wake up my 20ga shotgun might have something to say about that. i would rather shoot my car and miss you, then let you run off with my system. also anther alarm tip is hide your led light. if someone wants to break into your car bad enough they will. weather you have a alarm or not. i hid mine so people dont think i have one and dont try to bypass it. they just think easy steel.
if i were you i would get the alarm first. then the system.

I live in a pretty good town as I previously stated, but I park outside because my garage is full of of Buick GS parts and about 3 small blocks. (Step-father does short-track racing motors, and bought two GS for no reason.) However, I'm not too worried, I park next to my step-fathers Hemi Dodge and my mothers Hyundai Sonata... Not to mention the 95 Ranger work truck... Unless I were to tell you what I have, then you would never guess my family has anything to steal, . Also, the giant $3k dent in my car would definately fool anyone.

my step brother thought the same way you do. lived in a nice neighbor hood, hell in a subdivision, had an alarm, parked up by the garage every night. he even hung out with alot of the vandels and such. he finally changed his mind after 6 12" subs and 3 back windows. he had a hatch back. then slowly he started to get out of car audio.

Ya never know when it will get ya. I had my entire car stolen in 97. It was a tow job, so the car alarm did nothing. Had a c90 with processor, RF power components in front and rear, with a punch 400x4 DSM biamping each set of components, and two 12" power subs with a punch 200 DSM on each. The only lucky part was that I was reworking my sub box, so the subs and sub amps survived. Car audio was a LOT more expensive back then. But after that I got out of audio for a few years. Those subs and amps are still laying around. The worst part is that they got all my books, notes, and papers the week before finals. I ended up having to wait a whole year to retake some of the courses. So in the end, they took away one year worth of pay to.

Wow, that really sucks MIAaron, I never even thought about a 'tow job' before.

Well, I went back to CC... I know, I know, not the only store in the world, but it is the funnest. Most audio shops around where I live are display stores, no in-store demos, no getting to play with speakers or head-units. Just "How can I help you blow your cash without hearing it first?"

Well, anyway... I really listened closely today, without the distraction of a friend saying "Damn, that's nice" every few minutes, really allowed me to hear different characteristics of each sub woofer and speaker sets. The combo that I found best was a 12" Infinity Reference series sub, through an MTX 4 channel with MTX components and 6x9s. I actually thought the Polk's sounded just like the MTX, not too much difference there. I also re-listned to the Solo-Baric L5 from Kicker, and in actuality, it's nothing to write home about. Seems to me, the hype doesn't match the quality one friggin' bit.

I do have a question though... Are you allowed to come into a CC with a cd, preferbly "Bass Hits" or something of the like, and pop it in the head-unit to test out subs??? Or does CC not look lightly upon that? Also, I saw a Sony xPlod head sitting on the wall, went for $300. Funny thing was, the exact head was at Wally-World for $220. How in the hell does that work out?

a good way to prevent your car from being towed is to turn the wheel all the way in one direction before you turn the car off. then when you shut the car off lock the wheel, and pull up the parking brake. it wont work an a ga though for some reason the wheel doesnt lock. put you can still pull the parking brake.

in answer to your question i went into a store a few weeks ago with my own cd. i was trying to see the true differnce between the boston g5, and the jl 12w7. there wasnt just bass tracks on there though. i was on the w7 and had a freq test going and umm. . . the amp turned off! opps! didnt see that coming. it was a boston gt28, which is $1000, and i though "oh SH!T". about the time the sales guy walked in. i quikly turned it down and the sub came right back on. so i got lucky it sounds. anyway i dont see why they would really get mad unless you were really trying to blow speakers up and not test them. just tell the ****head that if you cant hear what the sub will sound like with this cd, that he can shove it up his ass, because your not buying anything from him. see how that goes.
also at your circut city do they have any infinity speakers hooked up besides the subs? venture out do your homework take a road trip if you have to. DO NOT settle for polk and mtx, when thats all you have heard. i cant prech that enough.

There power supply wasn't big enough to handle that big of amp. I got the same problem at my store. i really need to get that fixed. I can only put a amp up that is rated 1000rms.
