the difference of 60 hp between the G6 and z is a HUGE difference. plus, the VQ engine is a proven reliable motor that can withstand mods easily, where as the 3900 is a new incarnation fo teh motor that you are currently having issues with. i presonally dont trust GM and their damn gaskets.

of course there are things more important then how fast it is - but in the mix of cars he's looking at - what do the other cars have that the neon doesn't? (and you can leave roll up rear windows out of it)

Ya know this all depends on what kind of consumer you are that decides what sells. For me i would be looking for the most HP and TQ and handling for the dollar, i could care less about how the interior looks or the wheels that it comes with or the sterio system and all the electronic toy's. I can change all that stuff ya know.

I dont want this thread locked but the neon is no where near in the same category as the other cars mentioned (besides the cobolt). The neon was built for cheap speed nothing more nothing less. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems kman is looking for a little more refined automobile than a neon, I'm not knocking the srt at all maybe I'm getting old and relizing theres more to a car than just speed

Correct! I am not solely at how fast a car can go, but how well a car can go fast.

Great quote! And very true.....

Horsepower only sells certain types of cars..but still, HP will only get you so far...its the rest of the car you live with day in and day out.

the neon is no where inthe same category as a g6 or a ****ing 350z?

home boy, do some research, the neon suspension blows those cars out of the water, not to mention the drivetrain/power aspects as well...

im sorry if a neon isn't "refined" - i went with the car with the most potential for what i want to do - and that is quite simply drag race....

i rather enjoy the interior of my neon vs the grand am, i got racing seats, everything is easily accessible, the headunit comes programmed for the amp/sub the car comes with, moonroof(or sunroof? the one that opens up completely)...

it's a nice comfortable car... i dunno how that translates to cheap/unrefined ?

i understand its a neon and all but... is a cobra still a v6 mustang?

is a ws6 still a trans am? is a z06 still a corvette? is a evo still a lancer? is the sti still an impreza?

you people really need to take a look at how you judge cars, im not saying my way is the right way but a lot of people are just hoping on the bandwagon of stupidity.

i know its not ALL about having the fastest car, but stop acting like the neon is some peice of **** cheap car... because its a helllllllllllllllllll of a lot nicer then what most of you drive.

dually noted i understand you are all just giving me grief because of who i am, but you guys really come off as jealous whiney ****s when your moaning about a neon...

Nope, not really. Really the G6 and the 350Z aren't even in the same catagory, even if the 350Z is used and within 3K of the price of a new G6. All three of them are really built with different ultimate goals.

Thats funny because when sport compact car was working on their project SRT-4, once they started making the smallest increases in horsepower and braking, the suspension needed changes. As soon as they put coilovers on it, it didn't handle much better and they started getting mad wheel hop because of bushing deflection, so they had to change all the bushings to urethane. The suspension on the SRT is basically at the max of what it can handle from the factory.

I'm not trying to knock neons here. The fact that some aspects of them are maxed out isn't a bad thing since their limits are high, and they do well what they were designed for, which is go fast. Just as Keith pointed out, that's not the only thing that's important to some people.

eh, not to be offensive. but ive driven a friend's neon before, and i couldnt fit behind the wheel (i wedged myself in) and im a decent 6'2". i dont know how tall kman is but sometimes that needs to be considered. just because you fit comfortably in your car doesnt mean everybody fits comfortably in your car.

and Tom, if you ever say sethy-poo again im gonna puke...all over the place...for a few days solid atleast..

Well, I just started paperwork on a G6 GTP,6 MT in Crimson Red. I feel this is the best choice for me and my pocket. The car is quiet and suprisingly quick. Most of you will probably disagree with my decision, but I feel this a car I can live with on a daily basis. I was on another test drive with the salesman today, and received a few admiring glances.

Good choice Keith! I think you'll like it. GM cars have their problems but I'm sure you'll enjoy it none the less. I think the 5speed GTP has a lot of potential bottled up. I'm actually curious if that eaton you have would work on the 3500 with some modification. Maybe there will be a roush kit for it too. Who knows what kind of aftermarket these will get once this engine has been out a while.

Cool man. Its neat to see we've now got three fairly serious Grand Am modders (Blackrider, KmanGt1, and Nikki) all driving 3900 M6 G6GTPs. I'm excited. Good choice, I hope it works out well.

Thanks. I hope all goes well. The first thing to mod is the exhaust. I am thinking, 2.5" piping from the flex on back. A Magnaflow muffler and 3.5" tips should do the trick. This will be a custom job.

Congrats Keith! Can't wait to see pictures of it, the GTP we had with a bad launch and people in the car went 14.7 @ 94mph! Free up the intake and exhuast and you got a decent quick car on your hands!

Thanks, Tim. This car should be in the low 14's with the intake and exhaust mods.
