Here's some rough performance numbers I found over on the G6 OC. It was a 6 speed GTP coupe.

HI EVERYBODY,

I'M VERY EXCITED TO TELL ALL OF YOU THAT I WENT TO THE TRACK TONIGHT WITH MY G6. OK HERE IT IS:

RACE WEIGHT 3623
TEMP 32 DEGREES
R/T .071
60' 2.403
330' 6.436
1/8 MILE 9.753
MPH 73.68
1000' 12.616
1/4 MILE E.T. 15.009
MPH 94.53

I WAS VERY IMPRESSED.

ANYWAY I'M STILL WAITING FOR MY HOOD TO BE COMPLETED AS SOON AS IT IS I WILL POST THE PHOTO'S

To Answer All Your Questions Here We Go.

My Car Is Stock
My Traction Control Was Off
Launch Was 2000 Rpm
My Tires Are Googyear Eagle Ls2's 225/50/18
Lots Of Traction Issues Could Not Get It To Hook Up.
Shifting Was 1st To 2nd@ 5200 Rpm, 2nd To 3rd @ 6200 Rpm Held 3rd To The Traps @ About 5500 Rpm.
4th Gear Slowed The Car Down By 4 Tenths And About 5 Mph. In My First Run.first Run Was 15.48 @ 84.5 Mph.

So Any Of You Thinking Of Going Down The 1/4 Mile Don't Shift Into 4th!!!!!

I was into the WRX, but it came down to the price of the car and insurance costs. I had to compromise and I feel the G6 GTP was my best choice, financially.

I think I'm still one of the old timers who hasn't switched to a new ride yet.
I feel left out.
Best wishes with the new ride, Keith.

Who knows what kind of aftermarket these will get once this engine has been out a while.

The GTP is a six speed not a five, and it has the 3900 V6 not the 3500.

Anyway, congrats on the new car Keith! I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

thats right! Man I don't know why I was thinking 3500 for some reason, I guess cause the base models have it. I didnt know it was 6 speed though for some reason I thought 5. What tranny does it use?

There was an issue of Motor Trend, or some car magazine that did independent testing of manufactures claims to HP, and found the Jap manufactured cars are almost always overstates, sometimes signifigantly. The TL, for example, was a solid 15hp less than claimed. The American manufactured cars were typically under-rated from the factoy. The Cadillac XLR or whatever was rated over 40hp less than it produced. Just a side piece of information I like to consider when I compare domestic to japanese hp. I would think the 3.5 Altima and the G6 would have a pretty good race, like, really really close.

100% agreed.

Don't want to hear bitching from you in a year Keith when you are back in the same place of mind you have been the last 2 here. I wouldn't buy the coupe if it was $19,999. I like the sedan, but it would only be for a daily beater.

I guess this is the chance I have to take. I am going to the dealer Sunday to check out the finance options. If the terms don't work for me, the car choice could change.

That was Car and Driver. I saw that article too. All of the Japanese cars were overstated by about 5-7%. Most of the domestics were unstated by a bit but some where way off (like the XLR).

BTW... Congrats on the new car Keith. I'd love to pick up a G6 coupe, but I've got a house and a wedding to pay for right now.

Well, there has been a change. The G6 GTP is out. I have decided to go with a Cobalt SS Supercharged. The deal came in much better and with payments that are more affordable. The car is Victory Red with the Performance Package(Recaro seats and LSD).
