u guys are funny.

As for the WRX - it's not definite. It's a really good price, but I have to consider the high mileage n ZERO warranty. Pasquallywally's completely right, I'm sure the car's been beat on. Altho, maybe it wasn't. Since it IS an automatic with high mileage, it easily coulda been a daily driver. It's the boost guage that makes me think otherwise.

Help guys. What should I do at this point? I need to decide on this particular car by Saturday. I've been looking on autotrader.com, cars.com, etc, n all the used rex's, no matter the year, are easily $20k+. This car I'm getting for significantly less.

If I keep the mileage low for the next few yrs, it could all even out. As an 04, it'll still hold its value, unlike the GA.

argh.

Tearing parts outta the GA tomorrow... should be fun.

p.s. the rental = Lancer.

WRXs are pretty solid though if it were stick yea it was probably beat the snot out of but an auto 04 with miles that high was probably used as a daily driver and they did lots of traveling. I really cant see some dumb ricer kid putting 70k miles on in 2 years thats a LOT of driving and its probably mostly highway

Tell them to throw in a 30 day warranty or ask if you can have a second opinion from another mechanic, either way def take any used car to be checked out by a mechanic.

Wow I just went to KBB.com even with the high miles retail price is 17k in excellent condition they really hold their value

That is absolutely necessary. If you don't do that, you deserve any problems that may arise.

Otherwise, they're fun neat cars - I would go for it if the car checks out. Be sure to look at the engine and see if there's anything weird, like holes cut in the metal work, oil leaks, tons of zip ties etc.

Off Topic: you're 14 and you are DRIVING!??!
Mel, look around your local dealerships, i got my car for $15,000 and it has about 14,8xx miles on it and came with a great warranty (although the GA's are in production anymore LOL that could be why..but never mind that )
check out the Mazda 3 or the Scion TC
or just go with something like this

Okay, by no warranty.. there IS a 30 day/1000 mile warranty, n I'm under the impression that after Saturday the car will be certified as well. I just don't see the point in a 30 day warranty. There might as well be no warranty. It's outta Subaru's warranty - which is 5 yrs/60k miles. I do have an option of getting a 1 or 2 yr extended warranty - but I'll find out more info on that on Saturday.

I really don't think the car was beat on, what Greg said is what I'm thinking. I took a quick glance under the hood already, just to see if anything looked aftermarket, but it all appeared stock. Didn't have a chance to look for holes or zipties yet, .

When I go back on Saturday, I'll take it for a test drive, inspect it thoroughly, n def ask if I can bring the car to another mechanic. My biggest fear is 1 yr down the road the tranny goes.. or something expensive. I don't plan on investing *too* much into the car, ha, but I say this now..

I'm also getting the car for under $17k.

Oh, n I HAVE been looking all over - local dealers, online, etc - autos are extremely rare to find. Sure, I'd LOVE a 5/6spd, but with the situation I mentioned earlier, I'd be downright stoopid/stubborn to get a stick.

68,000 miles?????? You have to be focking retarded if you buy that car. Look for something with 20,000 miles or less.

Thats why I said they had to be in sales or something and probably who got rid of the car b/c it wasnt practical...I mean damn I drive a lot 60 miles round trip to work but still I put about 20k per year on. I dunno I'd offer like 10k and see what they say gaurantee you that car will sit on the lot for a long time with high miles like that

Hey Mel, I saw a GAGT sedan for sale when I went for gas today! You could transplant your parts, including the fender trim!

Seriously though, this WRX sounds too good to be true. But who knows til you have it thoroughly looked at by a good mechanic. Maybe you found a steal!

I don't want another GA. I know autos suck, n I would much rather get a stick, but I can't.

The odds of me finding another WRX with an auto for an affordable price is not gonna happen. I'm lucky to have found this 1.

I'm going home tomorrow to fully inspect it/test drive it/make a decision. The high mileage sucks right now, but I don't put a lot of miles on cars anyways [my 5 1/2 yr old GA had 44k], so in a few yrs from now, it'll be at about average. Considering the resale for the WRX + it's high demand, if I sell the car in a few yrs, I won't be taking much of a hit like we do with the GA. That's also how I'm justifying this car.

With that said.. spent about 3 hrs taking parts off the GA today. Royal pita n we hadta raise the engine up with a jack to get the intake manifold off, but I got pretty much everything I put on.

-Induction-Dynamics CAI with a very dirty cone filter
-RSM 62mm TB
-RSM manifold
-Pacesetter header
-f&r PFYC STBs [sale pending]
-rear sway bar [sale pending]
-redtop Optima
-GT tails
-Borla muffler [NOT the full catback exhaust - ONLY the muffler + tips]
-Sony Xplod HU/Kicker subs/DBMax amp
-randumb assortment of SG neons/strobes
-all headlight bulbs [hyperwhites, leds, etc]

Ths is NOT my for sale thread - but I figured I'd give ya'll a heads up. I've already gotten offers on some things. I'll probably be really busy for the next week too, since it's my last week at my current job. kthx.

We'll see what happens tomorrow.
