that would be why I'm not saying too much about my goals either hp or time wise
I'm just quietly building my engine/trans/car
its not just power that gets you into the fast times
few on this board are addressing the issue but few know what my subframe looked like from 300 wheel torque
well the ones pushing it will soon learn

Same here. My subframe is still fine.

I do agree with Brandon that many people don't realize how much it takes to go faster once you hit a certain point. I'd honestly be surprised if spy takes more than 2-3 tenths off his time this summer, much less run anywhere near an 11.

In regardes to the wheelie bar comment Brad, of course we all know you can do that kind of thing. You still won't launch as good as a GP with wheelie bars though, and also at the point you start doing these things your car starts loosing it's streetability. I think a few people on this site forget sometimes that the grand prix's that are running low 10's or single digits are pretty much dedicated drag cars. They have been heavily moddified to be better at drag racing to the exclusion of all else and they aren't even technically street legal anymore.

x eleventybillion

Thats a pretty big task to go from 12.9 to 11.5.

No offence....but the much lighter j-bodies have a pretty hard time running those numbers. You can count how many Quads/LD9's from the .org that have run 12.0 or faster on one hand. Good luck....youre gonna need it.

Forgot to ask...what kind of suspension/tire set-up are you running spy?

There are several ways to do the wheelie bars, and it would be a simple mod to make a bracket that the wheelie bars could be bolted to at the track, then removed for the trip home. I'm pretty sure there is already a kit out there just like that for the imports. Wouldn't be hard to adapt it to a GA.

My car won't be on a track until the end of august early september. I'm not even in the country right now. When i get back to vegas I'm putting on a 65mm throttle body, doing some dyno tuning on 14lbs and sending the car to the body shop. 12.9@106ish was with a governor that kicked in WELL before the end of the lights, people forget little things like that. As the car sits in the garage it is good for a mid to low 12 second pass. Before i left for vacation I've been working on eliminating gremlins in my setup and as of july 4th the car does not have a governor, video somewhere on some vegas site....If anybody has read hptuners forums they finally kicked the governor and rev limiter demons that's been plaguing 4cyl guys.

And yes i am better than sliced bread, I'm powered by polish vodka, and sheer stubborness for being 4cyl powered.

I love it that people see me as clueless and ignorant to the power requirements to be faster, etc, etc, etc, etc.

You all are absolutely correct, I'm a magazine mechanic, who paid someone to soup up his grand am.

Glad all this talk happens when I'm out abroad so that it's harder for me to reply and respond in a timely manner.

no that just happend to be when a read your post and I didnt want to wait tell you got back to respond.
I don't think your dumb or a "magizine mechanic" but givin the power to weight I think your goals are a little far fetched.
4 tenths faster than the quickest recorded V6 time
and you have a manual trans
funny if all things were equal manual to manual all you would see is the tail lights from the V6.
12.9 is barely 12's so expecting a 11. anything due to a speed limiter removal and larger TB is pretty far fetched.
but good luck to you.
like I said before enjoy your rain while you can because it wont last

I had to spend some cash to get into a net cafe to stay involved on this.

you're right i'm not expecting to hit an 11 w/ just a throttle body and governor removal. ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! I agree with this. I still have to give the car a good proper healthy tune, and have more practice racing on slicks beyond just three passes in my life two of which netted me *shockingly amazing* times.

There are a few things in the background that I can do to obtain this absolutely blisteringly difficult task of an 11 second pass.

I love you all.

I'm safe until i blow the welds on my intake manifold blow out, my nitrous bottles lose pressure, and my floorpan falls out.

Who cares, nothings happening on my end until I'm back home and when the temperature is in the 90s not 100s.

Since everybody's an expert. What is in their opinion the power needed to get a mid 11 second pass out of these cars?

Personally, I think you are on the right track. Turbo-charging would definately be the way to go in your case. Obvisously, you are correct that you need a good tune to make this happen and make sure you have enough fuel to cover an increasing boost level. If the timing becomes an issue of the computer can't handle the boost levels, I would invest in a water/meth injection system. I an hoping you do it and prove to everyone the Grand Am can be a fast car with the proper setup. Good luck man.

Amatures don't use nitrous, I've seen how you drive...you got a heavy foot....you'll blow yourself to pieces.

350whp should do the trick. Then youll just need to pull off a decent 1.7 60' and you are golden

You need somethin on your laptop that flashes when there is a danger to the manifold. That should mitigate the floorpan from falling out as well...
