If you gonna spend the money on it, do it right and go over the rear axle....it looks like crap under the axle because you can see all the piping when you get behind the car (plus after a couple years when it gets rusty it's even worse). Also, if you want to lower your car you risk the chance of screwing up your piping by hitting bumps because it's so close to the ground that way. Just my 2 cents on it....but a decent muffler shop can go over the axle and do it right.

As far as performance goes, I would have to say it depends on how it's done. If it's pressure bent (the cheap crinkly looking pipes), you are gonna lose some flow by going up over the axle because there will be a lot of flattening of the pipe. If it's mandrel bent (stays almost completely round), then there shouldn't much/if any loss of flow going over the axle. Now I'm by no means an expert here and somebody more knowledgeable could explain more, but that seems to be the general consensus about exhaust flow.

Is this debate about what looks good or what actually works? because hiding it is always better looking, and more practical, especially if you have alot of bumps in your roadways.

If indeed it hurt performance because of the additional bend, it would be about a quarter of horsepower. Don't you think that every stock and aftermarket GA exhaust runs over the axel for a reason?

This is usually the case when you buy directly from the manufacture. Most manufactures dont sell directly to customers, but when they do, they sell it at the MSRP, that way their vendors can sell it cheaper and be more competitve. This gives you the option to buy Directly from the maufacture for a few reasons, example, your not comfortable buying it from another site, or cant find it anywhere else. So, Monza pays XXX.XX for the exhaist and has a X % markup. example, they pay $175 for the exhaust then mark it up to 265 so they can make some money off it. Pace Setter sells it at their MSRP to deter you from buying from them, they want you to buy from someone else, but are still giving you the option. Most manufactures refuse to sell to anyone that is not going to distribute their items. |

it was made from using a car with the 2.4. and even if it wasn't it would still fit.

my whole issue is that I heard the muffler on these falls apart real quick and is raspy as hell on the j-bod's. but at the same time even if you replace the muffler, it's still a good price for all that mandrel bent piping + decent looking tips.

So, after the millions of threads on this exhaust, the only picture I could find of this exhaust installed is on an Alero, and its pretty dark.
What is up with that Yellow Tape Trim!? Anyone with a Grand Am get it installed it? |
