Debadging help!!!!

sorry if this topic was already answered but i searched first and couldnt find anything... The debadging part wasnt a problem... and I was also able to remove the passenger side residue fine... but when i came to the drivers side door i noticed the residue didnt look the same.. it looks like whoever owned the car before me glued them back on with an epoxy or wood glue when it fell off. I tried goo gone but it doesnt seem to be working... will a claybar take that off if i rub hard enough or what? it doesnt seem bonded to the paint but its on there really good. any help would be great... im gonna keep tryin to chip it off until then.

I just sprayed Goo Gone on the super glue and scratched it with my fingernail. It worked fine. But then again, there wasn't much of it on there in my case. Just be careful.

Hmm suddenly I'm having twisted thoughts of epoxying my badges back on with the black stuff the window sash clips are put on with...when I get rid of it of course...

Btw don't forget to apply a light layer of wax to the spots where you remove the badges.

If you are going to do that I would just buy some of that foam with sticky stuff on both sides and cut some pieces to fit. That would come off better than epoxy if you ever plan on taking them off again without removing paint.

Bax, lone wolf's post was just to kind of make fun of the people who put the badge back on. He said he thought of doing that so it's impossible for the people to get the badges off, since he said it would be done when he gets rid of it.

seeing that someone mentioned the sash clip glue, what the hell is that stuff, im doing those again here in a few days, the last time i tried to use two part epoxy and it didnt bond too well, i want to use that badass stuff that never comes off.

Its 3m black bonding stuff...something or another...I can't think of it right now I'd have to go check. Its kinda like a two part epoxy that you mix.

Oh and I wasn't making fun of those who decide to reapply their badges, just thinking of perverse ways to mess with someone. Honestly though if I was really concerned about reapplying them, rather than keeping them when I sell the car, I'd have a pro do it.

Absolute worst case if the stuff won't come off, bring it to a body shop. They have much more aggressive claybars and other means of removing stuff from paint.

ok so ive boiled it down to two options... either repaint the badges in silver with a clear coat finish (my car is black) then reapply then or have the drivers side door professionally refinished... cause whatever they used to put that badge on bonded with the clear coat and when i pulled it off the clear coat came with it... now i have an indention of grand am gt in the side of my car... what do you all think? and if i have it refinished how much do you think that will cost?

he has asserted his dominance over competing males with the loud masculine sound form his exaust system, Females searching for a potential mate will be driven away by weaker exaust systems and attracted to his SLP.

can it be buffed out if the clear coat has been removed in areas literally as big as the badge... the missing clear coat spots are literally a ghost image of the badges. its like whatever glue was used softened and bonded to the clear coat.. im going to try to get some pics up of it today.

Im gonna need to see pics of it, im doubting that its taking off the CC.

Ive seen it happen but its pretty rare and ussually happens on repaints.

If it is truly removing CC (which i doubt) then no it cannot be buffed out, obviously there would be no CC to buff out.

elementdrummer Still kinda new, but learning
if all else fails, use a dremel air tool w/ an eraser attachment, then just buffer the surface smooth after.

I heavily vote against doing that.

Most dremels even at their lowest setting is far to fast and can do even more damage than what is already their. If it does work then you will have to buff it out and not everyone knows how to do that properly and can make an even bigger issue than what they already had.
