Help me pick my next car

I'm very open to suggestions here, people. I want something:
- I can drive year-round (I live in Minnesota here, so no T/A WS6)
- Gets at least decent (20+) MPG (I drive about 20k miles a year)
- Is fairly new (2003 and newer)
- Is sporty and fun to drive
- Under 15k

Right now I'm going to look at a 2006 Mazda 6 Sport with the V6 and leather. It's a little more than I want to spend, but the 6 is at the top of my list right now. Please, suggest away.

I love the new Grand Prix's so that's my choice.
I know you're not in MI, just an example.

You can get a 2003-2004 GTP for that price with decent milage. Maybe I shoulda bought a grand prix over my grand am... but the sct hood is what did it for me.

A cobalt maybe? A Lancer OZ or even an eclispe if you wanted. Depends on the size of car you want as well. My next car will probly be an SUV ...an Avalanche even would be nice.

Yeah, mazda 6's arent cheap, especially if you get a V6.

I would go with the 3 if I had to keep it under 15k. I nice used mazda 3, sharp looking and decent power for a 4 banger and good on gas. I would totally forget about a new car unless you can get some huge discounts on a left over model year old car.

Or... get something decent, but not the best shape with the money from the insurance company, something for like $5k, and save for awhile and get something you really really want.

Get a Mazda 3. The Mazda 6's have had there issue's and arent that great for what your paying.

Mazda 3 is the best bang for the buck. Only problem you will have is finding a Used one. If you want NEW maybe a trip to Chicago is in order, go see Jon. He's still working there as far as i know.

A 04-06 GTP is also another good option. Dealer here as 3 of them all with under 30k on the for around 15-16k depending on options.

Or:

Ford Focus, Which is redesigned this fall
G5
Used 6
Mazda 3
Used Mazda 6
Nissan Sentra (redesigned for 07)
Cobalt
Toyota Yaris
Toyota Corolla
Ford Fusion
Saturn Ion
Used Saturn Aura
Used Saturn Vue

That should get you started.

i cant say anything about handling but i bet you could get a used G5 GT or 2.4 SS cobalt for around 15k. they got guys throwing on the SC's from the LSJ now. and you could get a sedan if you really need it.

I'm not going to buy a new car... I'm going to look used, this morning actually.

The more I've been reading about the Mazda6, the more I have started to lean towards the 3.... but I've been trying to make myself not get a little 4-banger, you know?

And Jason- I already PM'd Jon to see if he could help me find something down there

Problem u will have with the 3 is finding one that's 1.)Used and 2.)There aren't alot sitting around. 3.) Resale vaule is somewhat holding.

2002-2004 Nissan Altima 3.5 V6

Faster then most of the cars on your list (stock for stock) and can be found for about $11k-$15k with about 40k+ mileage. I found my 5spd for $12k with 49k miles and with just 3 bolt-ons I'm in the low-13s. And it gets 21MPG in the city to boot!

X2. I like the look of them but havent been in one to tell about the comfort. It seems almost all of the newer cars forget about comfort especially the imports.

Id look around and drive whatever you can get your hands on to see what you like.

I drove a couple cars yesterday (Subies, Hondas, Saturns and Mazdas, since they were all next to each other), and I'm going to look at 3 specific ones today-
03 Mazda 6 with 30k miles
05 Mazda 6 with 40k miles
06 Mazda 3 with 35k miles

You would buy a car just for their headlights and tail lights?

you looking for a sedan only?
if you are, you can get a 2003 or newer TL or tsx.. luxury+speed+looks. extremely comfy to drive.
might be able to find some for around 15k.

just a suggestion....

good luck

Based on the 3 he said he was going to test drive, thats the one I would pick. The blacked out lights are a bonus.

I would agree with this. My friend has a 99 GTPand i love it. Granted its not the same body style as the ones He's^ talkin about but they are really nice too. Not to mention when they hit boost they take off. I would definitly go with the grand prix
