Quote:
If your interior lights get brighter when you drive it, then the alternator is charging. If you can crank it, and then a few hours later you can't crank it, then you either have a really weak battery or a battery with a dead cell. You could also have a slow drain (glove box light on, amps that don't cut off, radar detector). If you have a slow drain along with a bad/weak battery, then it won't crank after a while. My bet is you have bad connections and prob. a dead cell or two in your battery. That means your battery is discharging itself. It doesn't matter how good your alternator is if the battery won't take a charge.

Get it cranked and then pull off the positive cable from the battery. When you do this, then the car is running off of the alternator only and no battery. If the car continues to run, then your alternator is putting out at least enough juice for your car to run. If it keeps on running, start turning things on like headlights, stereo, etc... If your car dies or you see fire come from your alternator, then yeah, it could be your alternator
.
not that posting this makes it any better maybe in context it makes sense

Trickle charger: 50$
New AC Delco battery: 75$
10minutes installing it yourself: free
...and you don't really even need the trickle charger, that's just to get you to the store to buy a new battery.
--------------Versus--------------------
Tow: 100-500$
Dealer installed AC Delco battery: 150$
No car (assuming you didn't have a second car) for 4 days: possible loss of salary, being a pain in the ass to friends for rides, cost of rental, etc.:100-1000$

Which choice is best? God this thread sucks.

I mine as well get my money out of factory warranty. The dealership doesn't want to install a new battery. I guess it will be getting towed again and again till they get sick of seeing it then maybe they will finally replace. Well my factory warranty is effective till December 2, 2008 so I got some time left.

Just spend the focking money for a new car battery.
Is it really worth it being stranded somewhere, because you are too cheap to buy a new car battery ?

Like a Costco house brand, Kirkland car battery BCI group 75 is $60 Cdn (about $58US) here.
So I am guessing it is even cheaper in WI.

If if you got the cash $$$, get a Optima YellowTop deep cycle battery.

Just remember to recharge the new car battery before using.

If, not...How many more of these type of posts/threads are we going to see in the future.
& when it doesn't start again...Just bump this thread

PS: Your pizza delivery job sure didn't help your battery.
Your battery only has so many starts cycles, before it wears out.

& stop starting your car every week, in the winter time storage while in the garage. & running it for 10-minutes.
You are NOT doing your car or your car battery any favour by doing this.
Just go & buy a car battery charger/trickle charger/maintainer.

I skipped to the end, but did the dealership tell you why the battery died? you make have a headunit/system power leak. I had that on my car, was like something like .02miliamp leak and it ended up fockin my batter...but hey like you said, you have a spare car and you are under warranty, why spend any $$ out of pocket.

This website is one big lauging matter. I don't have any extra spending money. I just bought some grillz, racing pedals and clear turn signals for the SC2. I also have a $578 hospital bill to pay on. I'm not like the majority in the state that get FREE healthcare and FREE food stamps. I don't need any government assistance.
