radar detector positioning on windshield

quick question-
does it matter where you mount your radar detector? like in the how to's, who ever made the how to mounted their's above the mirror and basically at the headliner http://www.grandamgt.com/radar.html or is the traditional middle of the windshield method best?
thanks

Unobstructed view to front (and rear if you happen to have a V1), the higher the better as you will get better range. I had mine in the GA up near the mirror, kind of similar to this (how it was mounted in my equinox):

here: speed by the police station as fast as you can each day with the detector in different locations. figure out which location got the most cops on your tail and keep it there.

Then chances are, you are only getting frontal protection.

In my Escape I have mine mounted about 3 inches below the mirror.
