Test post from my Nokia N95-3 cellphone

Test post from my Nokia N95-3, using WiFi.

Is T9 keying ever a pain.
Wish this thing had a full keyboard built-in

My brother joked, so when are you going to get the bluetooth keyboard ?

Not too bad on the cell phone display.

That has a resolution of 320x240, at 2.6" display, with 16-million colours.

With the ability to display the whole page, using the mini map feature for previewing;
& then zoom in 50%-125% for the finer detail.

PS: The cell phone does have an AV cable out for 640x480 display on the TV.

I just downloaded a Google search beta application.
So now have a Google search hot key on the phone.

& downloaded Google Maps.

Now when will Rogers have unlimited HSDPA 3.5G data rates.

Rumour has it, starting March 18, '08.
Rogers will offer:
$15 per month - 20MB ~ Tier 1
$30 - 20MB to 60MB ~ Tier 2
$50 - 60MB to 500MB ~ Tier 3
$65 - 500MB to 1GB ~ Tier 4
$75 - 1GB to 2GB ~ Tier 5
$85 - 2GB to 3GB ~ Tier 6
$100 - 3GB to 5GB ~ Tier 7
$0.03 per additional MB
*Note: Everyone starts off at the $15 plan and based on usage, you move up the tiers

(The current plans are like $80 per month for 500MB.)

It sucks to live in Canada for wireless data rates.

I figured, if I listened to my Nokia internet radio application for 1-hour every lunch, 4-days a week...
I would use like 936MB (at 58.5MB per hour) of wireless data streaming music per month
No thanks

But I am still tempted to sign up for wireless data access plan on my cell; for when I am bored, & want to kill time surfing the net.
Just won't do any streaming of music or videos.

PS: I heard the cell phone service providers are having price wars in the US.
Example: $100 US per month gets you unlimited US calling on your cell

Yup

Hence why my phone currently only connects for data on WiFi (mostly at home).

I was hoping that Rogers would soon have an unlimited data plan for Smartphones/PDAs/WM6 phones.

As Telus does now have an unlimited data plan at $30/month; but there CDMA cell phones suck/restrictive/ & are inflated price wise.
& their unlimited data, is not really unlimited. Example: No laptop tethering

Rogers GSM/EDGE or 3G/3.5G has no such restrictions, but you pay thorough the roof.

PS: When we are talking web browsing, we mean full blow HTML internet browsing ?
(Not mobile internet WAP browsing.)

Looks like no plans for any unlimited plans (voice or data)

Rogers tops forecasts on wireless strength

Carrier boosts earnings nearly 45% as mobile voice and data grows

February 23, 2008 04:30 AM EST
Chris Sorensen
Business Reporter
TheStar.com

Rogers Communications Inc., the country's largest wireless provider, says it has no desire to follow the lead of big carriers in the United States by offering subscribers unlimited voice or data plans.

Rogers, which yesterday posted a 44 per cent increase in fourth-quarter earnings, said it instead prefers to position itself as a "premium player" in the Canadian wireless industry, even as it faces the prospect of more competition after Ottawa decided last year to set aside wireless airwaves for new entrants in an upcoming auction.

While a new wireless challenger may be tempted to grab market share by offering an all-you-can-eat plan, Rogers executives said their strategy is to gradually introduce pricing plans for data applications such as wireless email, music downloads and Web browsing only as they are needed.

"We're not fans of unlimited plans," Rob Bruce, the president of Rogers' wireless division, told analysts during a conference call.

"We want to make sure ... that we create plans that are helpful and don't become barriers to adoption."

The comments come on the heels of a decision this week by U.S. carrier Verizon to let subscribers talk for as long as they want within the United States for $99.99 (U.S.) per month a move that was followed by AT&T and T-Mobile.

There has also been speculation that high wireless rates are among the reasons Rogers has yet to launch Apple Inc.'s data-hungry iPhone in Canada, despite being the only national carrier with a compatible GSM network.

While Rogers has denied its pricing preferences have had any impact on negotiations with Apple, there's no disputing the concept of unlimited wireless pricing has been slow to catch on in Canada.

Bell Canada Inc., for example, said in November that it would offer a $7 unlimited mobile data plan that includes both email and Web browsing, but the phone giant limited it to a single smartphone, the HTC Touch model.

Similarly, Rogers earlier this year introduced a $7 "unlimited on-device mobile browsing" plan, but said it can't be used with "PDAs such as BlackBerry or Windows Mobile devices." It also said certain popular third-party applications such as Google maps are also off limits.

Telus, meanwhile, offers a $30 unlimited email and Web browsing plan, or a $45 plan that also includes unlimited text messaging.

At least one analyst argued that carriers have good reason to be wary of all-you-can-eat plans and not just because it takes cash out of their pockets.

"You're putting enormous pressure on your network," said Dvai Ghose, an analyst at Genuity Capital Markets. "If you give people a buffet at a fixed price, they eat a lot."

He likened the situation to broadband Internet, which has typically been offered in Canada for flat rates. Now, service providers here are grappling with surging traffic from file-sharing applications that threaten to clog up their networks.

Ghose added that new wireless players may also find that unlimited plans are a losing proposition particularly if they're initially forced to roam on the networks of established carriers such as Rogers, which aren't likely to charge flat rates.

Rogers reported yesterday fourth-quarter profit rose to $254 million, or 40 cents a share, from $176 million, or 27 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. Revenue, meanwhile, was up 13 per cent to $2.69 billion. The results were slightly ahead of most analysts' expectations.

Rogers made gains in the key wireless sector with a 17 per cent increase in revenue. The company said its average revenue per user for post-paid users a closely watched measure grew 6 per cent, thanks in part to a 48 per cent year-over-year increase in revenue from wireless data applications.

While CEO Ted Rogers said he was pleased with the performance, he said there was still much work to do improving service and staying abreast of technological changes.

Love it. Full keyboard is freakin sweet, e-mail is a breeze, and it has built in wi-fi..... so wherever I have wireless signal (which is work, school and home ) my phone uses the wi-fi to make calls, which is free on my carrier. I totally love the phone.

Who's your carrier?
I've got AT&T and I've narrowed it down to Curve, Blackjack 2 or MotoQ. If the iPhone had a better battery or a removable battery I would have looked at that more, but...eh.

T-mobile. Dirt cheap around here, and about 80% of the people I call are on the same network. I average about 120 mins/month that aren't at night or t-mobile customers.

I'm kinda waiting to see if a new BB comes out, though.... I got mine last summer, and they haven't come out with anything new since (except new colors). My gf is biting the bullet on a new sidekick, so I'll let you know how that one is too.
