Which Should i get?

i am looking to buy i new stereo for my 2000 grand am. right now i have the stock one, and its starting to sh*t the bed. so i went onto crutchfield.com and punched in my car and they gave me a list of stereos that would work with my car. i need to stay cheap and i need an ipod hook up with it. i know nothing about this stuff, so other then those constraints i am lost on what to look for. here are five that i am not sure about...
Kenwood KDC-MP538U
Sony CDX-GT620IP
Alpine CDE-9874
JVC KD-PDR40
JVC KD-PDR50

anyone care to help me attempt to make a smart buy? oh, i also need one that has ipod controls that work with the ipod touch, using the touch screen while driving is a pain in the ass

Thanks!

Pioneer or bust

If I didn't have to run to class right now I'd pull some models up for you to look at.

My friend told me that JVC arent too good. he told me to try and look for a Kenwood, Sony, or Alpine. took what ajaxus said and found two Pioneer that seem nice:

Pioneer DEH-P4000UB
Pioneer DEH-P5000UB

like i said, i dont have alot to spend on this. and im not too worried about the expandability of it, im not looking to put in an entire system. just upgrade.

Thanks!

I'm w/ them on the Pioneer. That's all I've dealt with before.

As for your radio sh!tting the bed. You might want to consider leaving it in the car so you don't wind up rolingl in the crap. Or you could just get a diaper for it.

Sony SUCKS you donot want to go there for car audio... i am a huge car audio fanatic and have tryed almost every brand out there.. for a deck i would say alpine or go with matthew on the pioneers.. there are also some pretty decent panasonic ones out there as well. as far as the kenwood they do have decent decks out there but would totally still go the other direction. are you planning on getting subs/amp?

I'm on at least my 7th Pioneer deck since I got my first car back in '97

Not because they break, but because I like to upgrade .

Pioneer all the way.

i guess pioneer is well liked. i think you all convinced me into buying one of those. i am not looking to get any subs or amps really, just maybe upgrade the current speakers this summer since they blow also. any suggestions on which pioneer to get? im going to bed right now, but im for sure looking into them more in the morning.

clarion is for fegs...

seriously tho, it is..along with dual.

also for the OP, when you buy the hu, i wouldn't go through crutchfield, they tend to overprice things. crutchfield is only really good for customer reviews and research purposes. there are numerous reputable online sites that are better priced, and ebay is also an option (if you go this route, try to find a seller with thousands of feedback and runs a large online store..VERY small chance of being ripped off).

My best experiences were also with Panasonic, Pioneer, and Alpine. I had a couple of Sony's and they were terrible! Both were connected to high end components/amps, and both of them had terrible distortion when playing CD's even slightly loud.

Also, when you think you have decided on a deck, look at some customer reviews and see if anyone commented on the ipod controls. I've read here and there that even on the high end expensive models, sometimes the ipod controls are a joke.

like most of the guys have already stated pioneer is probably the best of the four. dont get sony for sure, i have a jvc deck and its nice and it does the job, but up against alpine or pioneer, it would be third on my list. i heard alpines breaking easily, but it could just be from abuse. id go with pioneer.

So i did some research on two pioneer receivers...Pioneer DEH-P4000UB and Pioneer DEH-P5000UB. both in my price range and do everything that i want. only problem is with the reviews. it seems that they both are very difficult to use. kindof makes me sad because they are what i want to a T. dare i try to buy it and see if i like it?

I'm sure a lot of those reviews are from people too lazy to flip through the manual and figure everything out. I say go for it.

yes the pioneer decks are actually quite easy to use. tricky at first but browse through the manual and you will be fine. as ar as alpines breaking easy i have had no problems with the decks.. the subs however are kind of a hit or miss as far as durability.. And Clarion ahaha that makes me laugh clarion is almost as bad as sony

For the pioneer models, most people have issues setting it up initially..and like stated above they never use the manual.

Once you have it programmed the way you want it, it's easy to use.
